coolant leak, need help!!!

Hi,
I just got my car back from the painter and drove it around for a few days and it's fine. Last night when pulling into the driveway, major amount of smoke came from underneath the hood. Stopped right away since the car is in the garage anyway. The coolant leak seems to have started right on the driveway since I could see the coolant drops. Smoke seems to be coming out from the turbo area and not the front where the radiator is.
and about a quart of coolant was dripping on the floor.
Checked the ast and the overflow tank, seems good.
But I have the blitz 1.3 pressure cap on both the ast and filler neck, it this bad and causing a hose to burst?
Havent checked the source of the leak yet. Tried looking last night after it stopped smoking and could not find anything. Oh, and the temp gauge did not raise above normal. thanks for the help guys.

I just had one of the coolant lines that run to the turbos swell and burst on me... lots of heat down there. there are 2 of them, one, not so bad to change, the other... well...

hope you find it

as you know, there are coolant lines that run through the turbo's. One of those could be leaking. If the car is not overheating, just let it run and watch it leak and try and spot it.

1.3 bar is too high, especially if you're cooling system is otherwise stock.... there's no reason to have that much pressure in the system anyway.

If it's leaking by the turbos, then the cooling hose that goes to the turbo has probably ruptured - it's pretty common considering the amount of heat that the turbos radiate (especially if you still have the stock pre-cat, but even so if you have a downpipe).

It's a good thing to replace anyway - so do it. Also check your radiator for leaks & AST if it's still plastic, but it sounds like a coolant to turbo hose.

I hope you don't have as many problems as I do. So far I replaced the radiator (cracked bottom), Upper radiator hose ( busted at the filler neck), and I am now in the process of replacing a water pump. I'm still not convinced that it's gona solve the problem.

Good luck

93 touring with 93xxx miles on it, otherwise stock.

coolant leake

These cars are easier to find a coolant leake if you can use a coolant system pressure tester. Preassurizes the system without having to get the car hot to find the problem. Good luck, Jack

Thanks for the repplies! They were a great help.
I found the leak. It was underneath the filler neck and it just sits right above the turbo. The hose right after the clamp swell up and burst, but the crack was facing away, that's why i could not spot it the first time I checked. Anyway I still have the stock ast and going to replace it with the aluminum one.
Thanks for the help.

I just replaced that hose. It was a bitch considering its size and the fact that you can see it from above is damn misleading. I had to take off the airpump and air box. Not much room for hands to work in. No more leaks though.
