Coolant fan testing?

Hi I was wondering how do I test the radiator fans, I let my rx7 run for a bit and let it come up to temperature and was wondering what if my fans don't come on, so I turned it off and would like to make sure that the fans will turn on. So can I put some heat from a heat gun on the water temp sensor to make sure it works.
Thanks
Richard

There are procedures in the shop manual. The cooling fan system is more complicated than on/off, there are 3 different speeds and multiple inputs that will kick the fans on.

I think so, shouldn't be too hard to find.

The stock setup runs the fans only when the car is quite hot (105 deg C+), there are a number of things that can be done to bring temps down, like the FC thermoswitch and a PowerFC.
