Compression results from Rick's

Got a test done on an FD I'm interested in buying...has a reman with ~25k miles on it

Numbers came back somewhat strange...i think:

Tested compression on warm engine.
Front Rotor: 9.3, 9.4, 9.4 @ 248 RPM
Rear Rotor: 9.1, 9.2, 9.4 @ 241 RPM
These are very good numbers.

^written on invoice..

Now as i understand it, I thought 8.5 was the factory max setting? Why is this one getting into the 9's?

Any insights are appreciated, thanks!

130ish psi with 25k on it? I find that hard to believe. Was the motor stone cold when tested?

If the test was done by Rick's Rotary in Plesanton it's correct. Rick is an honest guy and they do good work.

Said engine was warm, and yes..done by rick's

So I'm assuming 9.x isn't bad//unrealistic? Like i said before, i thought ~8.5 was the strongest it should be

My rear rotor had 130+ psi on all faces on a 30k+ motor, the front rotor was 119, 120, and 0.

compression depends on cranking speed as well

i'm confused with this compression stuff. some catalogs say 9.0 (130.5psi) others say 8.6 (124.7psi).

How much compression do JDM motors have?I guess it should be same as far as rotors and housings are same

What was wrong with your front rotor, having two good faces and one bad is hard to do.

Side seal?

Good point Ryan. your motor spec'ed out pretty strong, 5 out of 6 anyway.

spec is 250 rpm, so he was right there.

We'll find out when we break the motor down in a month or two. Should be interesting

Btw, if Chris vouches for him then it must be so. You have a damn strong motor on your hands

How about the reman has allot less than 25K mileage?

Is this an FD located at Rick's?

Iv probably tested 15-20 cars with a Genuine Mazda comp tester & Iv never seen anything higher than 8.1 @247rpm with most only averaging of around 7's. The highest iv ever seen is 8.9 (cant rmbr rpm) on a fresh JDM import with a new engine.

I would wonder if any oil was in the combustion chamber during the test to artificially rause compression. I have never tested a rotary engine that had over 125psi without the aid of oil in the chamber, or higher than spec cranking numbers. 250rpm is spec for cranking rpm for the test.

No. Dammit, I just don't get it. I can't update every page on the site, I dunno why the site designer made it that way. So I updated the first 2 pages of each generation area; the general page and the engine pricing page. The 2 pages most people will look at. Yet no one seems to see the updates on those pages, and everyone looks at the status on the other pages.

I guess as a stop gap measure I am going to have to write on the front page in big bold red letters to ignore the status on all the other pages, which is from 2007.

Unless someone here is a web designer that would like to barter web page repair/update for partial credit on an engine.

ME!!! I work for Microsoft as a developer.. I have worked on the new skins for Microsoft's new CRM site, http://crm.dynamics.com ... and also wamu.com. I made all the buttons in CSS only (major PITA) and the large logo and text in blue, the top nav and footers were amazingly difficult if you know about JS, DHTML and AJAX calls. My most recent project was for Pulte Homes, not live yet and now I'm on a new site for Intel ...

I also know how to build e-commerce sites, database driven shopping carts, customer service and inventory management systems ... but I don't do flash, sorry.

What would you like?

I need to get another FD though so I can barter .. LOL

Speaking of Ricks Rotary, I should offer to rebuild his website (complete with customer accounts and order processing) if he rebuilds an FD for me !!!

I've also done some work in the adult industry (why not, pay is good and you can meet hot chicks!) so, if you have something you might want there as well, no problem.
