Clutch kit/rebuild with OEM parts.

Yes, I've tried to search nothing exactly what I'm looking for and related posts are dated.

I'm looking to go "period correct" all the way and like to rebuild the clutch with OEM dealership parts.
Sure I can see parts list catalog but sure all the parts I need or which part number may over lap pieces I need. Having never done this before.

Anyone has a list of Mazda part numbers for this work?

Not much exciting here - just get stock clutch disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing. Ray Crowe should be able to source the parts.

Is there anything else you are trying to find out? Not sure exactly what you are looking for.

Hi Dale, thanks for your note.
I'm looking for a list of part numbers so I can be specific with Mr. Crowe or any other sources.
I've few back and forth with him over some other parts I didn't ended up needing and felt I better email him when I'm sure I needed something.

I have a brand new pressure plate I'll let go for $100 if you need it.

Thanks! Will consider this once I get the entire part list and where I'll source them all.

I ordered these parts from Ray years ago but haven't installed them yet - the old disk held up. Check with him to be sure this is all you need:

N315-16-490-MV clutch kit: includes pressure plate, clutch disk, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, seal, alignment tool.
881-11-404A oil seal [Edit/correction: should be 1881-11-404A]

Hi Retserof,

Just to be clear, you are pointing out 2 part numbers that needs to be brought
  • N315-16-490-MV. This is coming up as a Miata, and sometimes FD clutch. Seems hilariously cheap, do we think its new or remanufactured parts?
  • 881-11-404A. This is not coming up on any searches.
Thanks!

Search harder and read your search results more carefully.

N315-16-490-MV is the FD clutch kit number, but some parts sites mislead you by showing what is actually the miata clutch with a lower price. Read their page carefully and you will see that what they offer at that price has a different part number. Expect to pay around $300 for the FD kit. Here's an example of the correct kit: https://www.quirkparts.com/oem-parts...it-n31516490mv (No endorsement implied here.)

The second part number is for the pilot bearing seal, which was not part of the clutch kit when I bought it, and is different from the rear clutch seal included in the clutch kit. It is always a good idea to replace the pilot bearing and its seal when you're in there anyhow. Here is an example (again, no endorsement implied): https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts...als-188111404a Drop the "A" from the end of the current part number for the pilot bearing seal and a search for the old part number shows this, for example: Oil Seal - Pilot Bearing for 1974-2011 Rotary - All - Racing Beat

Good luck!

Do the pilot bearing and seal with it. If you’re feeling flush, get a new clutch fork and maybe resurface the FW. And I’d change the rear trans. seal with the job
too.
“Period Correct” and OEM often aren’t the same thing. Pretty sure all your going to get from Crowe is OEM.

its 1881-11-404A. the pilot bearing is N326-11-D03. the clutch cover is N315-16-460C-9U (in the USA, out of the USA, drop the 9U), disc is N315-16-410C and the throw out bearing is N315-16-510

the kit N315-16-490-MV is new parts, and its cheap, buy that

Good catch -- I dropped the first "1" from the seal part number in my first post. My bad.

Just email Ray and let him know what you are trying to do - you don't need part numbers, he will get you the right Mazda OEM part. If you want to get that pressure plate from IRP Ray should be able to get the clutch disk itself.

On the pilot bearing, 9 times out of 10 the bearings are fine. You can change the pilot bearing seal fairly easily which is worth doing. It's a pain to change the pilot bearing unless you have the RIGHT tools and it's more likely you'll end up with a bad situation - either a bearing you damaged trying to get it out, a damaged eccentric shaft, etc. It's not worth all that work when the bearing is good. Clean the. bearing, put new grease on it, and a new seal, and you're done there.

If you do decide to replace the pilot bearing, there is a special tool available for installing the new one - costs about $18 from Mazdatrix. Getting the old one out is another matter. Their special tool for pulling that runs about $115.

I think a blind-bearing puller is usually available rent-free from the local chain parts stores. I have Mazda’s SST and that’s all it is. I now also have the install tool but used to take them out of the freezer, a bit of oil and use a small flat-head body hammer and the old seal to install.
Its true that they don’t go bad often. But they’re not expensive and I never thought they were hard to change out.

They aren't hard to change with the Mazda tool. If you don't have it it's another story altogether.

It's not common to find a slide hammer with the right attachment that can pull our pilot bearings.

Again, I've just seen so many hacked up pilot bearings that WERE good from people trying to replace it. Also they VERY rarely have problems, I can count on one hand people that had a pilot bearing go bad.

Ray has the Mazda OEM N315-16-490-MV for a good price which is cool. But he's also under the impression it is the same as: https://www.mazdatrix.com/product/cl...stage-1-93-95/ .

Giving the difference in price I'm a little confused if there is a misunderstanding.

Looks like a misunderstanding indeed not worth discussing.
