Check your belts!!!

Hey Guy's just wanted to remind you to check the belts in your car, I was lucky enough that I was not on the freeway when this happened I took a quick pass from a light then heard this thing from the engine bay that sounded like something had shreaded to bits at first I though it was my brakes or something but when I got home and looked under the hood it was my belt I was lucky that not the whole belt ripped apart, otherwise I would have overheated so fast since the water pump would not have been circulating the water,,phewww.

Thing is, those don't look like OE Mazda belts (or at least most of the belts I've seen). Not that this was the cause, but there are plenty of really cheap quality belts out there. As long as they're properly tensioned, good quality belts should last a while (longer than a year...), unless it somehow becomes exposed to elements that it shouldn't. This is not to say that you shouldn't check your belt's condition constantly, but a failure like that is either something that you would've noticed beforehand, or is indicative of some pretty poor quality.
