Installed mine yesterday, works like a charm, nothing to add to the previous comments.

Thank you very much Adam.

At the suggestion of a few forum members, I am posting an update to clarify a couple of items. Hopefully this will result in fewer pm's.

1. Intake kits are still available.
2. The cost is $125 shipped.

Adams' Cheap Bastard Intake mod

I am late to the party, but Adam's CBI is awesome! Noticeable pickup in response. The shield that Adam makes is top notch. Fits perfectly and keeps the hot air side out. Also, I had a couple of questions and Adam was extremely helpful. He even talked me through a boost controller install. Do this mod! Inexpensive way to pickup HP compared to the aftermarket stuff and you would never know the mod was on the car so it'll keep the smog police happy. He also provides detailed instructions.

Thanks Adam

I just wanted to drop by and say thank you to Adam for his innovation and giving us FD owners who wish to keep our rides stockish an option. I got the intake probably about a year ago and I really love it. It seems a bit overpriced for what it is, but it's still cheaper than any other intake out there and you don't draw any hot air from under the hood which is very necessary with these cars. I really enjoy being able to hear my stock turbos and the blow off, and the mid to high range power I gained from this mod.

Just wanted to say thanks to Adam as well. I've used his AirBox mod on two of my 7s. The first relatively stock and the second with BNRS3s turbos. Worked great and looked clean.

I just stumbled upon this thread and this mod looks really efficient and interesting in order to keep the oem style.
If I understand well, I need to order it from you, Adam ?
Anyone has a photo of it installed ?

LOL ... I just saw my name in the thread and then you changed it to Adam.
Yep, it's Adam ... if he's still making the shield.

He's not producing the finished product anymore. However, he's selling very detailed instructions to make your own, including a full-sized template for $50 shipped. The process is relatively straightforward, I was impressed with what I received. As for the pictures; there aren't many around because IIRC, he didn't like posting them to avoid people ripping off the design after all the work invested. That stated, there are pics floating around on a thread somewhere, I'll see if I can dig them up and send you a link. I contacted him via PM when I purchased mine and he responded quickly, that's probably your best bet if you'd like to proceed with the transaction or request additional information.

sounds fair.
Just wanted to know what it is about, nothing specific, but from what I've read here, it should be exactly what I'm looking for.
I've just contacted him in pm. Thx.

I received the instructions and made my own quite easily.
I installed it flawlessly, fits good (I only had to cut some millimeters of the AC lines bracket that was in the way)
Everything looks cool and dandy, but I feel that there's a small portion of the undertray in the front that could be cut and allow lot more air flow coming in. Nobody tried it before me ? Is it a bad idea ?

That might just lower the pressure in front of the radiator.

that's right.
So I'll let it be and try how it is performing as is.
I've got the mishimoto radiator, and it may be slightly larger than the oem so I was just a little concerned by the thin fresh air opening.

The intake system will no longer be a limiting factor for your system, meaning that you will now get as much cool air as the rest of your system will allow. I would love to hear how it runs now.

Glad everything went well.

Hi Adam. I was directed to this thread and would like to purchase but it seems you don’t sell the kit anymore. Are you still selling the plans? I can’t DM since I’m new 🤦‍♂️

I'm interested in a kit or plans as well... it seems like this is basically the best intake there is for stock twins, regardless of price. The fact that it looks factory is just a bonus.

I suspect Adam is out of kits also, but maybe people can take inspiration from similar designs:

IIRC the cheap bastard intake was simply replacing the stock air filter with some KN cylindrical type (see pettit and M2 intakes for them), cutting open the stock box bottom (only one side though) and a thin sheet of metal to guide air flow.

Edit - Yup here's a thread that if used in conjunction with what scotty305 posted should allow people to replicate the cheap bastard intake. What Sgtblue says makes total sense (see next post), stock replacement air filter will work just fine since the stock box is retained.

You can cut in between the grid to maintain the integrity of the box

Or completely open the area:
