cheap bastard intake - my version

First, thanks to all for contributing over the years to a great source of info.

Just wanted to share my version of the cheap bastard intake. Don't recall seeing a vesion like this, but I could be wrong.

This isn't so cheap unless you have the materials around. I had glass cloth and wanted to get some experience with epoxy, making plugs, etc. I want to do a factory duct extension for an smic later. I'm one of those stock look guys.

It's not pretty but that wasn't the point and no one will see it. It also fills that gap on the side of the radiator very nicely.

very nice. you've pretty much created a fatter version of the M2 airbox.

looks great considering you hacked up a stock part!

Yeah, looks nice! Hell, spray paint it black and it will look OEM and quality.

I would still love to figure out some sort of air duct for my car, with my front mount and radiator, there's pretty much zero room for any sort of duct or whatnot.

I'm surprised that no one has built a scoop type of setup to bring in air from the hole on the left side of the bumper.

It seems like that would work out ideally if you only have the single oil cooler like me.

^^ It's because we are better off with a second oil cooler there then trying to force air in from there. I just spent the $$$ to get a second stock one in mine this winter. Plus, If you take off the under tray you will see there isn't a whole lot of room to work with if you want a Direct feed in.

You can always get the Force induciton Headlight cover...

^how about Stock Box CAI?

OP, awesome job. Spray it black and block out any gaps in the front bumper intake and you should see some great results.

thanks all

adam - didn't mean to steal your tademark. Consider it a term of reverence for the original. I guess I just call all "hole in the bottom" cheap bastard. Like I said, it's not so cheap anyway. Maybe it's the "not so cheap bastard". I'm certainly not competing with yours, just inspired.

I thought about painting it but got impatient and threw it in already. Probably put a coat on it at some point. It's far from a smooth finish though.

Thanks for the comments.

Looks great. Nice work. Much cheaper than spending $400 on an M2 intake box that can't be sourced anywhere and yields about the same net effect.
