Catch can
Catch can
Hey guys,
I haven't touched my FD in a while due to excessive blow-by and needs a retune but finally ready to start working on it again. I talked to the builder to diagnose and also asked on here what I should do about the blow-by and found that I will need an oil catch can. Is there anything else I could do to let it breathe and prevent blow-by besides the catch can?
Small amount of oil leaks when just cruising and when I hit boost it'll spurt out to the point where it will go to my windshield and will be all over the dipstick area and go to the top of the upper intake manifold.
As for the catch can I'm not really sure where/which one to buy so if anyone can recommend me one, I would appreciate it.

youre going to use the rear oil return and one of the nipples on the oil neck for the can hoses. Make sure its vented. FUSE makes a nice one if you have your ABS deleted. you can use whatever can you want, it just depends on where you can mount it. every engine bay is set up a little different so its not a 1 size fits all situation. a catch can is a catch can whether it comes from amazon, ebay, moroso or radium. they all do the same thing. just dont get one that is obviously crap. if it has a built in AN option then its likely a good bet.

Same one I'm using. I had to mod the filter to sit lower. Keep in mind that can is really tall. I have it mounted where my abs was and its JUST short enough to not touch the hood

Make sure you're not overfilling the crank case with oil. This is overlooked. There's some school of thought on adding a check valve and giving the catch can a vacuum source rather than leaving it open. I run mine open and under certain conditions (track) will fill up my small catch can where there's been some evidence that just giving it some vacuum with prevent it from pushing oil up the filler neck. I know some fill necks are baffled for this purpose. @Aarkaah has a nice setup that uses vacuum and a check valve, and reported that on the track it pushes out less oil than open element.

I would hope we give each other enough credit to assume we're not overfilling our motors with oil. Like a car that doesn't start, let's assume you already know the battery isn't dead.
My bad. For some reason you and this gentleman have a very close handle. https://www.instagram.com/tv/CLIHdXA...dium=copy_link
This is the video I was referencing above, and it's interesting. Takes awhile to get to the point, but effectively he was filling up his catch can under really hard driving conditions on the track, added a check valve and the problem went away. The end.
Got the catch can and waiting to install now, not sure where exactly the rear oil return is, would you mind snapping a pic of it? I searched on google and couldn't find anything (probably missed it). Also there's two nipple on the fill neck, does it matter which one? One is capped off with a plug might use that
