Car wont stop!! Throttle stuck

Throttle got Stuck - CAR WONT STOP!

today i took my car for a ride (Automatic Transmission - 94 FD) and stepped on the throttle about half way...car reved up to about 4,500 and shifted up to 3rd or 4th gear...then i let go of the accelerator and noticed the RPM were going up to 2000 and back down to 1000 continuously without stopping! My brakes got rock solid and the WOULD NOT STOP! as it reved up towards 2000 it would accelerate and as it came down to 1000 it would decrease accelarating. I nearly crashed and found myself using the emergency brake to try and brake the car...I put it in neutral and it obviously started to slow down but the revs continued up and down...I then pulled over, turned the car off, checked the rug mat that it was not stuck, opened the hood and tried looking for anything abnormal but saw nothing. I turned it back on and gunned the accelerator to the floor and then it stopped.

I nearly killed myself! I'm freaking out! please help!

Sure you weren't in a Toyota?

It seems weird that the rpms would cycle between 1k and 2k like that, if the throttle were stuck it should have kept climbing until the transmission shifted. Maybe a loose connection or bad sensor?

Glad you kept your cool and came out of it safely.

What is the condition of your throttle cable? I have seen way too many cars with frayed cables, missing brackets that secure them, etc. It is a safety issue.

Pull the intake elbow off and work the cable slowly...feeling for any interference. Look for any varnish build-up, especially around the butterflies.
