OK Car pulls sharply sideways due to torque

Hello, I'm a relatively new member. My RX-7 1994 5-speed pulls sharply to the left upon acceleration. Then it snaps quickly to the right upon loss of torque for shifting to next gear. Any ideas why? It is so strong as to make the car feel unsafe. It seems the right rear wheel is doing much more than its share of the work.

Sounds like only one wheel is getting power. Check your axle or diff.

Check out all of the suspension bushings, etc., in the rear suspension - sounds to me like it is rear-steering due to something loose back there. Jack up the car and wiggle the wheels around the vertical axis. If it is as bad as you say, the loose component ought to be pretty easy to find.

Could be as simple as tire pressure. The first fd I ever drove did this many years back.

even only a 10lb difference in pressure between the rear wheel will certainly cause this...especially on higher sidewall tires. One of my stock wheels had a leak a while back and had around 20psi while the other was 35 and the car drove EXACTLY like you describe.

I bought a FD in FL and drove it back to TN about 3 years ago that pulled horribly to one side whenever you would accelerate, enough to scare you when you gave it throttle. The previous owner said this had been something he had been fighting about 6 months and couldnt figure it out. Well once I got back to TN I started to do a right up to sell it and checked out all the tires, one of the rears was a 275/40 and the other was a 255/40. I couldnt believe how simple the solution was.

Also check the rear strut tower bar to make sure it's nice and tight.

I have had the same problem but not as bad, I took my car to a friend to do an alignment for me. when he did the rear, the car's thrust angle was way off. after the alignment I havent had any problems.

Yeah, tire pressure and a alignment are the first things you should check.

Also check if you are running the same brand and model tire on both sides. I had this once on an FC Turbo when I had 2 different tires on the rear.
