can u tell me the value of this 93FD?
alright, so here's my question, what do you think is the value of this FD... it's a '93 R1, custom paint, it's beautiful, it's a blend of yellow and orange pearl, brand new factory motor, with just break in mileage so under 700 miles, brand new clutch and brakes...
the thing is, i have to run the car through carfax, it has a salvage title, the guy says it's because the old motor blew, but that doesn't make sense, it wouldn't have a salvage title because of that, right?? the interior is beautiful, especially for a car that is 10 years old, the leather on the roof looks brand new... i guess the only thing making me uncomfortable is the minor paint blemishes and the salvage title...

No. Just because the engine blew doesn't make the title become a salvaged title. That is complete utter bull$hit.
The salvage title results from SEVERE damage from an accident or engine fire. The cost to replace the damage will usually exceed the value of the car...and in this case, the insurance companies will declare the car a salvaged title.
In the case of an engine fire, the damage could be limited to the engine bay, and therefore the entire frame/body of the car could be 100% perfect.
Either way, this owner sounds like he is trying to deceive you. A motor being blown will NEVER make a car a salvaged title.

Did he tell you about the title or did you just have to find it out?
Receipts for any work done?
Leather on the roof? You mean the vinyl headliner looks good?
Cars don't typically get totaled from engines blowing up. They do get totaled for minor engine burns though.
Post up some pics.

that's what i figured... i'm going to have to run a damn carfax, my buddy, who owns an autobody shop went with me, and he told me that there is no bondo or signs of damage anywhere... the ONLY thing that he had a question about was the drivers side door wasn't perfectly aligned...
as for the salvage title, i had to ask, considering i found the damn pink slip under the seat, registered to a carlos something or other, but the guy selling the car is something entirely different...

My driver's side door isn't aligned right either, but neither is the hood/bumper, and that led me to do a carfax. I found out it HAD a salvage title due to being totaled with only 3K on the car. The original owner kept the car and eventually had a new, clean title issued in Alaska.
In my case I still wouldn've bought the car since the original owner kept it, and was able to have a clean title reissued, the car must have been fixed right. If the car was sold after being 'salvaged' and then the guy that bought it wants to sell and wasn't upfront about the situation, it could've been a half-*** repair.

well the repair work if there is any is PHENOMENAL, like i stated above, my buddy works in the autobody industry, and he could not find any signs of damage...
engine fire possibly, might explain the repaint, and the engine bay being colored black, which might be from the fire, hehehe... the stereo is missing, so maybe it was a theft recovery???
my question now is, with all the above installed, what would be the going price for this car???

Brand new paint. Salvaged title. The car has been in an accident.
A salvaged title will significantly decrease the resale value of the car. If you plan on keeping this car for a long time, and the car is nice, buy it. Just don't expect to sell it for the same price as a car with a good title.
You don't mention how many miles on the car. That is also an important factor.

i would have a salvage title if it was a engine fire. I don't like damaged car so if the carfax says its been crashed give him a low ball figur 9500 or 10000 full price if it just was a bumper bender. I wouldn't touch it if it as frame damage.

Damn shoei that sucks.... Well keep looking you'll find your dream 7. It took me over 2 years to get mine, 93 touring with 50,000 miles on the stock engine. You have to be very picky.

bastard...
so i ran a carfax finally on that car, and it states the actual mileage which was reported quite some time ago is really over 180,xxx... then, according to the DMV section of the carfax, this vehicle has been reported as a total loss, which the guy states is because of the engine being blown... sounds way to suspect for me, too high a mileage then he stated and whatnot... i hope nobody buys that car, i'm pretty sure they are going to end up regretting it... thanks to everyone who responded though, it is greatly appreciated...
