Exclamation can the transmission filter do?

as many of you may or maynot know, I have and automatic FD and recently i have had a problem with the tranny originally i thought that it may be the torque converter but, like an idiot that I am I checked the transmission oil and it is close to coming out of of the top and is dark brown,My story is at about 4-5 thousand rpm the car stops accellerating and just revs,My question is if the transmission filter is bad could it do that to the FD.

when did you do the last service?. I don't think its the filter. sounds like a pump problem.or a clogged trans cooler. if the oil is brown its not a good sign and failure is just around the corner. have it flushed by a good transmission shop and add synthetic oil. drive it and see how it goes.

Just to be clear, the automatic transmission for the FD doesn't have a filter in the traditional sense. It does however have an "oil strainer" that can be checked and cleaned by removing the transmission oil pan. You will need to remove this anyway if you plan on changing out the ATF yourself since he oil pan has no drain plug. I would check to make sure the speed senors are properly connected (there are two of them, see page K-49 of the FSM for their location and purpose) and that the harness itself is in good shape.

This poor guy is trying to not look the obvious in the face. When he first posted about this problem a week or so ago, it was evident to most that this tranny is toast. Hmm...that rhymed. Anyway, the best thing to do is to buy one of the many used auto trannies for sale in the 3rd gen For Sale section. This will absolutely fix the problem and be much cheaper than even starting to do diagnostics at a shop.

Hell I just gave away a 61k mile auto tranny that I removed from my MBM project because I am going manual. Guy from Indiana came and picked it up. Did not have time to mess with it and wanted to give something away
