can I do a compression test on a stripped shortblock?

right now my block is stripped. no exh/intake manis, coils, OMP lines, fuel injectors or anything.

would it be safe to do a compression test at this point? just crank it enough to get a solid reading?

It would have good intake flow since the UIM/LIM is off.. but is it OK to crank the engine dry like that? It's been sitting for a few months now.

I didn't do one before I stripped it, since it ran just fine. But I'm at the point where it would be easiest to swap in a new block. I want to know the health of the engine before putting everything back together with the single kit I have.

I'm not sure how meaningful the numbers would be given that the engine would not be up to operating temperature. You'd probably get very low numbers - though I guess if you got three equal pulses per rotor it would tell you something.

ya, for the most part I just want everything to be even... make sure there are no broken apex/corner seals.

I'll give it a go and report back.

turn the e shaft over three times and you should here 6 good chugs out of the exhaust ports. every half turn you should here a chug.

Forget doing it the hard way (turing the e-shaft) put it flywheel side down and rotate the assembly round and round. Listen for even pulses.

engine is in the car, and not going to be coming out... unless there is a problem of course.
