calibrate gas gauge

I need to calibrate the gas gauge, did a search and the link that had info was invalid.

Anyone know an easy way to do this without having to just do trial-error.

Thanks.

Do you mean set the float height in the tank?Or something on the gauge itself?

i think the float is ok, just need to get the gauge right, it had after market gauge faces put on and the needle was not set right, i believe.... but i cant rule out the floater for sure...but ill start with the gauge, right now a full tank shows as 3/4 full on the gauge.

Ahhh, I have only put gauge faces on once that i had to remove the needle. It was never accurate again. ( tach and speedo) Are there any set screws or flat sides to locate it with?I hate to say it but i think you may be looking at trial and error. Or a new gauge.( don't know what those cost.)EDIT: My float gets caught on somethimg in the tank. It will read from full to 3/4 for a full tank or E- 1/4 depending on how it goes in. I'm sick of it and just go 250 miles and fill up.

Hey Damian, How bout if you pull the float /pump assembly out of the tank so it (the gauge)will read E and then put the needle on as close as you can. Then lift the float all the way up to see if you read F accurately. Just a thought. Maybe you already tried that.BTW... Is this on the new CYM you have?

yep, on the cym :-)

interesting suggestions,.... but doesnt that mean i have to do what I dont want to do, take the entire gage assembly on-off the car untill i get it right? I guess i can hook up teh cluster without the outershell on and fill it up, then adjust it, ok now i think i get it, I'll try that tomorrow.

Can't you just fill up the gas tank and put the needle on so it points to the F mark on the gauge? I need to do the same thing. Mine is because I changed out the gauge faces.

I believe the stock fuel gauge is "hard set" to work with the OEM sender unit, meaning you can't calibrate it. Simply gently pull the needle off and place it back on in the "full" position. That should do the job.

If you want to check if the sender unit is correct, you can measure the ohms it is producing. If the tank is full, it should the sender unit should read 6 ohms. Empty = 80 ohms.

So, if it reads 6 ohms at full, then you can reset your needle to the full mark.
