A/C Low Side Valve? (R-12)

Hi All,

I am trying to replace the valve core for the low side on my car's A/C system.

I purchased a core replacement kit that came with a little wrench and was able to swap out the valve core on the high side very easily, but the diameter of the hole on the low side is just slightly too small for the tool to get access. I tried getting another set of wrenches on Amazon, but they were all the same size as the one I already had :/

Is/was there a special 'low-side' wrench that was used in the past for R-12 systems? I find it hard to believe that Mazda had some sort of proprietary valve that they used.

Thanks!

Still not having any luck with this.

Is it possible that this valve (R-12 low side) is not serviceable at all? In other words, will I need to replace that entire section of hosing to replace that valve?

Curious if anyone has any memory of running into this issue.

Thanks.

I was very encouraged by your response, but have had no luck in finding the part (or tool) you are referring to.

I even checked with the parts guru, Ray Crowe, and he couldn't find it. He also let me know that the pipe the valve (low side) is on, isn't available any longer either.

Do you have any more information about the adapter you mentioned?

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks

You need the slim shank style for those. Snap On TR107A.

There’s one on ebay right now with a red handle. https://www.ebay.com/itm/27538534324...iABEgIeEfD_BwE

I had already tried these:

Is the one you're recommending smaller? I just can't tell from the photo you attached.

BTW - I was able to use the smaller side of these tools to remove the valve for the High Side. The Low Side is different for some reason.

Thanks!

Hi John!

I've replaced mine before, no drama or excitement. I don't know if I used the tool in the kit or some other schraeder valve tool. My old piston compression tester came with a Schrader valve tool that I've used on those service valves.

This is just unscrewing it, it's not one of the fancy ones that lets you change it without losing refrigerant.

::SOLVED::

It turns out that a piece of an adapter that I had used previously had broken off and gotten stuck in the opening and that was blocking the access for the tool. Once that was removed, it was just as easy as the high side.

Thanks for the responses!

Also - now re-charged with R12 and just as cold as ever!!
