broke off stud on turbo y-pipe connection.....what do i do.....

Guess what i finished my vac hose job and put my car back together what took the most time was waiting on my parts to get in!!!!!!damn check valves took me 2 weeks before i got em....but as i was putting everythin together i over tightened the nut the screws onto the stude on the turbo (where first turbo and y pipe meet facing toward the fron of the car) it just snapped off i tried to glue it with silicon and all sorts of strong glue but it didnt hold up because as i get near 10psi i hear this screetching whistling sound coming from the passengers side i know that its due to the missing nut due to the striped stud.....what do i do to fix this problem.

ps my boost problems are over the car is smoother and feels great.....suprisingly with the prob i have idle and boost dont seem affected.........?

back that stud out and buy a new one from mazda or your local auto parts store. A vise grip should do the job

If you can't grab it with vise grips and back the stud out, go to the parts store or Sears and buy an "Eaze-out". You don't need to put a stud back in there, you can just use a bolt if you have one lying around from the stock airbox, etc. Most 10mm bolts should fit that hole.

You tried glueing a steel stud with silicone?? Wow... that would never work. Once you break anything like that, you pretty much gotta replace it. Hopefully you can grab it with vise grips and get it out. I think you'll have a really hard time using an easy out to remove it.

I have a similar problem I just did the vac hose job and when I was putting the rear turbo inlet duct back on I realized the hole in the turbo the stud goes in was stripped out. The stud went back in ok but if I tried to put any torque on it it would continue to turn. I thought I got sufficient torque on it for it to be ok, but the other day when I was tapping my egt hole I noticed the nut was missing and the stud feels very loose I think the other one is ok but I need to fix the stripped one. Any susgestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff D.

Maybe tap it to the next available size and put a larger bolt in? Either that or put in a helicoil, but that might be a bitch.

I would suggest tapping it. A temp fix might be to use some LockTight.

Helicoil is the way to go. However it requires helicoil insert tool or you will have a hard time to put it in. On the other hand you could switch from metric to standard. Use similar standard (inch) tap to re-tap that hole ( It's only couple thousands of an inch bigger).

Good luck

Make sure when you are doing this you stuff a rag or something into the outlet of the turbo so you don't drop any crap into it.
