bringing in a jdm fd

Not sure where to put this but.

i know not everyone is a fan of tiger japanese but. i wouldnt mind going to toranto picking up a FD for a few grand and either drive it back or put it on a trailer back to CT.

i tried emailing them but didnt really get a good response other than they wont ship a whole car.

would anyone know what kind of paper work is involved or fees to get a jdm fd from canada to the US? so that i can own it and its fully registered under my name. and drive it on the street.

Thanks!

Not going to happen, RHD FD is not legal in the US as of yet.

it will be seized at the border.

need to search, this comes up at least once a week...

yeah give up.

Seriously not trying to be a dick but do a search and will find many failures including seizures by the state department (after the car has already been paid for).

Just find a rhd chassis in the states from someone that gave up on registering theirs.

I registered mine by taking my bill-o-sale to the dmv. After brake/lamp inspection, highway patrol inspection, and smog I was good to go (lisence plates, pink slip).

It may be difficult getting an FD to the states but it is not hard to register one already in the states

But it isn't legal to do that...
Your car can be seized at any time as it is not federally legal...

I have a hard time believing that the highway patrol officer broke the law just for me to register my car

highway patrol are on a STATE level.

Federals laws are above that and at the discretion of the enforcing authority. Your highway patrol did not violate any laws.

to the OP: SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are literally 1-3 of these threads EVERY week.

Exactly, If the car is original jdm rhd the U.S. customs can come to your house and seize your car. They are then either destroyed or sold as exports to other countries. If your really dead set on rhd you can convert a usdm car to rhd, but its pretty expensive to do correctly...

This statement is very contradictory. If its so easy to register a non domestic car then why would a person who took the time and money to bring one in give up at the easy step?

They will come to your house and seize your car, look up the skyline that was taken not long ago there is a thread in the lounge. He had the car here "legally" and they still came, put his car on a flat bed and took it to be crushed.

Thanks for the heads up limepro, I'd hate to see something like that happen to my FD.
I'll just have to enjoy it while it lasts then
