boost spiking help
Hello all!
I've been trying to diagnose this problem for a few weeks no with no luck, so I am coming to you.
The problem I am experiencing is a 14psi boost spike at wot in 4th and 5th gear at freeway speeds, 60-80. In 3rd gear it seems to only get to 12-13 before I catch it and lift off. This is only at wot. I've done no power mods on this car, and neither had the previous owner. The car is at 49132 miles. I had one of the tubes pop off the pressure tank. But the problem was happening before, and still after that.
I've been to http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/symptoms.htm
It says that: Hose from Primary Turbo Compressor to Wastegate and/or Turbo Pre-Control Actuators has popped off.
I honestly have no idea where that is. If someone could tell me where that is, or how I can check it, that would be greatly appreciated. I do have basic mechanical sense, but I like to know what I am getting into before I start pulling things apart.
Thanks!
HLN

They are right in your face if you remove your intake.
However, for simple boost spikes it's likely that these lines are ok. What mods does your car have? What boost are you intending to run?

Try unplugging both green solenoids at the electrical connector - you should get a flat 8psi. (stock car, stock exhaust, stock intake). If you get this, then I would replace that solenoid pair with a good used set from the classifieds. If you still see spiking, you should continue looking for mechanical issues.
More mechanical possiblities:
It's possible that one of these actuators (wastegate / precontrol) is leaking internally. To test this, use a Mityvac and a tee fitting or cap to apply pressure to the actuator.
It's also possible you have a pinhole leak or crack in these hoses, so remove them an inspect for small tears or leaks.

the connector should be on the left side of the soloniod. the other side will have 2 or 3 nipples. it just unplugs by pressing the tab and pulling (almost like unpluging something out of an electrical socket).
