DownPipe Wont Fit!! What To DO?!?

Ok i think i may be a total idiot. I have a RHD RX7 and i recently bought a Bonez DP. But i COMPLETELY overlooked something. Ive already taken out the stock DP and noticed the top of the pipe is flattened which allows it to get around the Steering Column. Guess i didnt think about the steering column being right next to the DP. Well the Bonez DP wont fit becuase the steering column is keeping it from sliding in. My brother told me to just bang down the DP a lil to fit it pass the column but dunno if thats a good idea. Should i just purchase another DP made for RHD rx7s?? or just screw it and try banging the BONEZ DP down a lil to fit it past the steering column? I need some advice...TIA.

Ill try posting some pix if i can figure it out.

get one for rhd, it'll b a lot more work trying to get it to fit. maybe if you take it to an exhust/muffler shop and have the fit/modify it for u.. but that is $$. u can sell the bonez on the forum easy, or try trading it for a HKS.. they have dp made to clear the rhd steering.

Used HKS DPs are pretty hard to find...

bang it to fit isn't a good idea...what if it doesn't fit afterall?

BTW RHD RX7 legal in US?

HKS downpipe will 100% fit a RHD car.

You need to read my newbie downpipe FAQ -

Why would he do that when someone just offered him a used HKS for $100 shipped?

Unless the fabricator charges $5 per hour, I can't see doing it for anything close to $100. And only a very skilled fabricator is going to get an FD downpipe right the first time - this is not like fabbing a midpipe.

Get the HKS downpipe. It was designed on a RHD car, and has a flattened area specifically designed to miss the steering shaft. Great fitting downpipe for a great price IMO. Only $200 new.

The flattened section on the RHD downpipes is VERY compliated, most use a cast piece for the "head" of the downpipe.

The HKS downpipe is the only easily available downpipe that fits RHD cars in the US, but there are tons of them in Japan, just most are harder to get your hands on.

BTW, just saw this in the newest RX-7 Mag from Japan, AutoExe's dual pipe downpipe. DROOL. If it's Autoexe, you don't WANT to know the cost.

I haven't seen anything with the classic finish of the Japanese exhaust parts made by Chinese companies.

Yep, Knightsports has had a dual pipe DP for a few years. I don't believe theirs is terribly expensive. RTS3GEN had a divider put into his downpipe. I don't know if he ever got a chance to do any real comparions to see if it helped or hurt anything.

Jump on that $100.00 HKS DP...
