Boost Problems ! Found something but don't know what

While digging around in my stock 93 noodle bowl of hoses, looking to
see If there was anything obvious. I found that the little vacum
hose from the little black box behind the alternator was loose.
(forgive my lack of technical knowledge)
I dont know what the little black box does(pressure Chamber). But more importantly the
hose that exits the box on the passenger side goes down into the
noodle bowl of hoses. The hose has come loose at the other end. When
I pulled the hose out It had a little bit of orange plastic in it
that has snapped off of whatever this little guy connects to.
Does anyone know where this hose goes. What is brocken and where I
can get another one. Or does anyone know what I am blathering
about

Can I still drive the car as the earliest I can get it in is next week?

This may help, It has a good clear diagram:

I assume that the orange plastic piece you speak of is actually part of the check valve that goes from the y-pipe on top of the turbos, to the pressure chamber.

Thanks for that !

I didn't really have time to dig around in the nest for the rest of the hose as it was getting dark. If the check valve has been cracked like this and just waiting to finally snap, would that account for my boost pattern?

Since fitting my boost gauge I have only noticed 7psi and as far as I am aware I dont have enough pressure to activate the secondary. Sometimes It is okay when it is cold. Shiffting quickly I get nothing on the secondary.

Do you reckon it will be to drive the 10miles home as I am still in my office just now. I have get it booked in next week!

You should be ok. You'll just have a leisurely drive home with no transitioning.

You'll probably run into every car you've ever want to race on the way home!

I mailed the guy who runs the garage it is going into to give him some idea of what to expect!

He said just to take it easy and not drive under boost. I told him if I had that will power then I should be able to quit smoking easily Just wanted to check as he is a skyliner and one less FD is one challenge

Thanks !!

Just a wee note to say thanks to Rotarded, as I got home without any trauma!

You were right I was burned, every set of lights on the way home coz I wasn't racing. Revenge will be swift and absolute in a week or 2. Once again thanx

Found the rest of the little guy

I have just removed the strut brace. Lifted the Pressure chamber.
Then found the rest of my check valve that runs to the y-pipe.
Hurrah !!

Cheers for that guys!

Does anyone think that this cause for low boost or does the quest go
on?

Yes, the broken check valve at the pressure chamber will not allow the chamber to hold pressure and actuate the solenoids properly.

Also, All the one way valves (check valves) are interchangeable.. So, you don't have to get exact same one.. and also any one way valves will work.. I'm using some from the TII.

My my experience so far.. Most of the turbo transition problems been the vac/pressure.. And when the check valves go bad.. no pressure or vac gets build up in the chambers * 2 different chambers.. one vac chamber behind the power steering.. and pressure chamber behind the alternator*

I have done over 5 vac jobs and I wish someone would of told me about this a year ago.. but we all learn from our mistake..

Nice man at the garage is letting me drop it in on tuesday. Thankfully he knows his rotors and is glad he won't have to dig around in the nest, cause he hates it!

Fingers crossed 10-8-10 !

Check valve part numbers are below:

The all White one: N3A1-13-1995 (note: this is a revised p/n and is a very expensive part - $40)

The Black/Green one: N390-13-995A

The Green/White one: HE41-13-995

The Aluminum one: NF01-13-890

Note that Mazda has been consolidating part numbers lately and has started using N390-13-995A for the Black/Green and White/Green.

The pressure and vacuum chamber check valves are the black and green ones. The double throttle control check valve is the white and green one.

Good luck!
