Boost Leak Survival Guide

Ok. Seeing how I have been talking to myself on this board for a while now I've tried to perform a few diagnostics on my pfc to asses whether it is working or I have some other problem.

So as you may recall, I can't get higher than 10psi regardless of my pfc settings. Fortunately, I tested to ensure I could control the boost downwards. It is rock steady at 7psi when I tune it for that - with that said - as I understand it - I MUST have boost leakage somewhere.

From the Turbos I have a stock crossover pipe, a greddy smic, and the greddy 2 piece kit going into the turbo. Frankly, I am somewhat amazed that this could be the problem, but I would like to know what everyone thinks I should check out.

As much as I like typing for my health - I hope someone will answer.

Thanks!

I know how you feel...

Are you sure it's a boost leak in the IC piping? Maybe it's a vacuum hose problem, or is that what you meant?

Connection from the stock IC to the cossover and to the Y-pipe is notorious for boost leak not easily visible. The pressure from boost usually goes through a crack which closes when the car is in vacuum.

I would change your hose connections if you still have the stock ones.

Make sure you didn't accidentally disconnect a hose during install of the Greddy IC.

Many times when you have a leak in the intake or ic connections or pipes/hoses your boost gauge will flutter is this happening? Is everything in relation to boost control working properly accept for moving higher then 10lbs IOW is boost building in all gears at the proper point if this is the case then I would say you have a leak somewhere other than your vacc hoses. Are you getting any boost spikes or is it level at 10lbs?

Thanks for the insight.

--- I have had the "hose-job" done with tieoffs so I don't think (hope) that is the problem. I'll do a visual today to be sure.

--- As far as how the boost is working, it has the feeling that it is being controlled - meaning everything works fine, except it won't boost past .71 max.
My boost curve feels like it is building normally in all gears.

--- Is it just coincidental that isn't going past 10psi or are items (such as the crossover) particularly weak over 10psi?

Boost leaks are a bitch to diagnose with the stock setup.

If you need/want a replacement crossover tube, I have one that I would let go for cheap. Good luck with the diagnosis.

Well - I am really anxious to see how fast it will be - with 12 or 13psi. You said my car seemed pretty quick at 10, so at 13psi I may be able to keep up with you..
