RX8 vs moded RX7

Totally an opinion question guys.. but I'm starting to wonder. I expected the base RX8 to be a few grand more than it apparently is, so it's realistic for me.

So, here's my dilema.. do I get an RX8 and spend every last dollar on the car, or do I get an FD and spend the difference on mods?

What would you guys do if you were in my shoes? Get an FD now and mod it, or wait a few months and get an RX8

Man, this is a retarded question I've decided.

The 7--minus reliability issues and the fact that the interior isn't quite as slick as the 8's--is definately the better pick. Especially when you drop the difference into it.

you never want to buy a car in its first year of production. there could be too many unseen problems. even though there are some issues with the 7 you would be able to put a decent chunk of change into it. i would get the 7 no questions asked. and who knows maybe mazda will release a turbo charged rx8 in the next couple of years

I seriously doubt a turbo version will be released. The limit in Japan is 280hp, with the car already making 250 n/a, it would make no sense to put all that extra cost for 30 additional horses.

Biggest problem is that the new "Renesis" engine's better thermodynamic efficiency negates the one advantage for turbocharging that the rotary had over conventional engines: a surplus of exhaust energy for quick spool-up and proper heating of cat cons for emissions. Mazda engineers stated that a turbo RX-8 is unlikely. I'd imagine the new gen 7 will probably use larger rotors for more displacement/power.

The horsepower limits in Japan are basically "gentlemen's" agreements; it would be simple for them to just electronically limit a domestic model to 280 hp, while uncorking the export model, where the real sales are made.

Beyond the dollars is the styling issue, which is always a matter of personal taste, but for me the FD wins hands down.

I second that. I really don't like the styling of the RX-8. It and the 350Z look too much like an Audi TT spin off of some sort, although I love the look of the TT.

Uh, right. What part of the RX-8 looks like the TT? Isn't the RX-8 based on concept cars that came out before the TT?

Also, the Japanese 280hp thing is irrelevant, there have been many cars already in Japan with more than 280hp, they just underrate them.

As far as the RX-8 vs FD goes, it totally depends on what you want out of a car. The FD for that kind of money will smoke most anything on the street. The RX-8 will be new and perfect, the interior will be way better, the engine will probably be bulletproof, and it'll have a full warranty. No right or wrong answer here, just whatever you like best is right for you.

I've heard they have dropped the 286hp agreement in Japan, I may be wrong, but what the heck is the new supra and NSX going to have? Less power than the last ones?

First year of production or not, there's no way the 8 will have more problems than the 7. Who cares if they're unknown or not..at least you will have a warranty.

That said...I'd probably get the 7 :-) Some things just defy logic.

The RX-EVOLV concept had this in the 1990s. What's your point?

man the 8 isn't even on the same page as the 7... the 8 is a 4 door... doesn't have the power of the 7 plus you have to go through with the obd II... all the 7 here have the obd I.... big difference when you start to put aftermarket parts in... plus i think the 8 is gonna be kinda like the 350z..... they put a exhaust system in the 350z and it lost 7 hps...

my prediction is the 8 will be able to walk a 7 around a handling course. it is just so far more advanced in vehicle dynamics design what it lacks in power it will make up for in cornering ability. i realize this is a big statement considering a 7 can walk most everything already, but with the engine tucked back where it is (check out hte website, theres a picture with the engine cover off, the front of the enghine is well behind the strut tower) and the fuel tank fore of the rear axle this thing is gonna handle like a lotus or a kart.

if you don't like working on cars or aren't willing to learn don't even think about getting a 7. buy a 7 if you want a project car that can sit in the garage if need be, buy an 8 if you want a reliable daily driver that you can kick some *** in right out of the box.

That Silver RX8 is tight!! The one on the bottom have a little too much goin on though...But i'll buy the silver one.

If I had the money...I would buy the RX8 as a daily driver and keep my beloved FD!

You are certainly entitled to your opinion.

However, if you try to make statements of fact that are untrue, there's a very good chance that someone is going to correct you. Get over it.
