blowoff valves

Im looking for a better blowoff valve. My friend just got a hks ss blowoff valve for his wrx and it sounds awesome. He told me it will get louder as soon as he gets a bigger turbo. He also told me turbo xs makes the loudest blowoff valve. I want a loud blowoff valve but i want it also to perform well. The hks is loud and performs real well. How about the turbo xs

Try venting the stock BOV to atomosphere first and see if you like the sound or not. It's a cheap mod, and may give you the sound you are looking for...

I read somewhere (a post here) that this guy poped his motor because he hit 18psi boost and if he had a better BOV it would have "probably" saved the motor...I thought...Is this true, will a BOV help if you accidentally overboost?

also, is the BOV for the twins different than a BOV that you would use for a Single turbo?

A BOV only vents boost in OFF throttle situations. It vents air to protect the turbos from surging. A POV (pop-off valve) will relieve an overboost condition under throttle.

Shabib67: from your other posts, I'm aware you just got your FD, don't spend money on something so worthless. The stock BOV is good and will hold back any boost levels you will be running with the stock twins. Do what Mahjik said and vent the stock bov. Do a search for a how-to, there have been many threads about it.

Just pull the 2 BOV hoses off the stock airbox(the two smaller ones on the left , one on top of the other one) and cap the ends of the stock airbox with the rubber bypass caps that you can get at any auto store(Autozone, advance Auto, Pep boys etc.) for about $1.69. You kinda have to force em on but that how you know that they are nice and snug

By the way Stock BOV are pretty much one of the loudest.

I have the turbo xs BOV and it sounds awesome, I can make it blow off on the highway and have people in cars next to me with their windows up hear it. It definatly makes a statement, keeps the ricers away too, they hear that **** and back off. You have to have it welded onto a hardpipe kit because I dont think they make an adapter for it. I really recommend it though-B

yeah, i'm planning on getting the turbo xs for kicks. i did vent the stock bov, I was impressed at how loud it was, but once I closed my hood, it was just a little whistle, still cool sounding though. I had the blitz for years on my dsm, so I was used to hella loud.

Soooo, when you vent the stocker do you have to put some kind of filter on the hoses or do you just leave them open?...Right now I have the Apexi intakes and it has made it a bit louder but I would still like it a bit more loud.

I vented ours and it sounds sweet. i have had no problems with it all i did was take the hose off the ONE key word there ONE BOV. remember that one is a BOV and one is an acuator i believe. my friend did the same thing and he has his wheel well vented and his hood sorta poped up and his is loud as hell. an aftermarket BOV is deffinetly not the first mod, go with a DP and a boost and temp gauge. exaust is key GET THE HOT AIR OUT!!!

Yeah, if you're all done w/ bpu's then go ahead and tinker w/ a aftermarket bov. Do the right mods first. I had both the bov and crv vented at one point as well. I read many threads saying there wasn't anything wrong w/ venting the crv as well, is there?

my tuner said it was cool that I vented the bov but to just leave the crv alone
not sure exactly why but....I would just put it back how it was and just do the bov

will taking off the wee hose from the BOV to the intake really make it that much louder if I already have an open intake? I can't really see it doing that much. Guess I'll mess with it this weekend and see what happens.

I have a pettit intake and I can here my BOV. If Does anyone know how to make it louder with this intake or is it as loud as its going to get. The pettit has a little K&N filter that the stock BOV connects to

OK....this is probably a stupid ques, but I got a Blitz BOV for free...so no complaints there. My car is basically bone stock, so is there some kind of adapter for the aftermarket BOV, to fit into the coupling that runs to the Y pipe? And more importantly, is "tuning" (adjusting spring) going to be a problem? Basically wondering whether or not it will work with the a stock setup. Again, I know this shouldnt be a first mod, but hey, I thought since I had the BOV, why not. I already vented the stock, and its getting too plastic sounding.

I have heard the turboXS before and I really like it because of its "traditional" BOV sound. It's just a nice whoosh. The stock one does fine though, so vent it and be happy unless it's leaking boost.

Stevey629: Yes it should work. You should be able buy an adapter to put it in the same spot as the stock BOV is. One of the online stores should have the adapter or fitting you need. www.wholehyper.com lists a elbow flange for that BOV but no fd3s specific. It will be hard to find a place that lists just the fd3s adapter for that BOV but if you can't find one listed online than call a couple online stores to see if they can help you out. Or if nothing else place a "WTB:" ad in the forum's for sale section. That BOV should work fine on a stock car. You can probably find instructions for adjusting it online or even on this forum if you search.

To anyone looking to add a upgraded BOV, it's a waste of $$ for a first mod. Spend your money on something more wise like a DP, intake, cat-back, etc. Does it really matter how loud you're BOV is if you're faster than your competition??

thx for the help with the BOV ques. Guess Im gonna try to find a flange. This flange should fit into the stock rubber bov pipe right? or is the elbow pipe a replacement for it? shouldnt a flange that fits the diameter for the stock rubber piece work? either way, I know this is a retarded mod...remember...no complaints with free stuff.

I replaced mine b/c it was leaking boost. I have the HKS S/S.

Venting the stock is pretty damn loud and no it won't make your car stall out. That only happens on cars with an airflow meter...not a map sensor.
