These might help.
But make sure you friend knows that there is virtually no performance benefit, there is risk of a belt slippage due to reduced contact on the waterpump pulley, his cat might prematurely plug and if he's still on the stock ECU, the car will likely run worse, not better.

I've run with and without my air-pump plugged in many times (electrically powered that is, just free-spinning) and it's caused me no problems whatsoever on stock ECU. I didn't notice any difference.

I have been wanting to remove it for some time, myself. Free up some space, less clutter...less CRAP. I hate emissions devices. Just..more...clutter. My FC had nothing but the bare essentials, along with A/C and P/S and I looooved working on it. I could actually GET to everything.

Removing the air-pump, and the various do-dad's assosciated with emissions is always a great step when you start modifying an FD, based on what I've read, and from my experience.

I ran my california 93 all stock with no smog pump and I would say if anything it ran better. I have know many FD's and have never seen one run worse with the smog pump off. I belive it to be a urban myth. But that is just my experiance with the many fd's I've worked on. Thanks for the threads.

I understand that every car is a bit different but if your car ran better then IMO, it's truely unique. I unplugged mine one time and it ran terrible. I would love to add the space under the hood too, but just not seeing the benefits out-weigh the costs. And I don't have emissions to worry about.

For other urban myth testimonials, a search is easy.

Sorry man that sucks. Im not saying I dont belive you, just in my experiance with about ten diffrent cars there has never been any change in the way they ran. The only dif was there was now more room under the hood. I wish yours was one of those so you could get rid of it also. Thanks for the info.
