AST Broke, ordered from RX7store.net and need temp solution.
Ok, I had a hell day today. Every hose I could think of decided to blow up today. The one I could not fix yet was my AST. The plastic nipple decided to break off, I have no idea how it broke it was broken. So now I have removed the AST and my car is sitting in my driveway. can I connect the two hoses togehter with a 3rd hose and clamp it to last me a few days till RX7store.net gets the order shipped to me? Or will that cause a problem?
I sent Jason an order from rx7store.net to ask if they can overnight it cause the website did not give me an opiton.
PS.....
I have searched for AST, read alot of information, can you be a lolipop and not ask me to search? Thanks!

i read in a book that you can get away with just removing the ast altogether...
i dunno how wise that would be since there is a very
important reason the ast was put in there in the first place...but i guess you can just clamp the 2 hoses
together for a few days or so

Thanks MDo, I am aware of the AST vs Replace debate, they sell a kit to remove it , but thats not what I want to do. I plan to keep it, but my new one may take few days to order, so I need to know if I couple the two tubes together if it will cause a problem short term. Somebody has to know the answer to this.

Can't just run a hose to replace it ... engine will have no coolant pressure relief, and may well damage coolant seals. see newbie links for more real info on parts needed to bypass ast.

Thats what I needed to know, thanks. BTW...I am not a newbie and I am aware of the by-pass kit, I just do not want to eliminate the AST.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Dude, just order one from Pettit or go to rx7.com (http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/3catalog.cgi?cat=16&part=2), and get one. They're pretty cheap, and if you don't want to go bypass, you can probably get someone to overnight it to you.

thanks everyone for your replies, especially the one that told me about the pressure problem, had you not responded I would have just coupled the hoses together. My solution was to order a new AST from mazda. Today I borrowed my friends car, I took my AST to home depot to repair in the mean time. Basically I took about 3 inches of the same size hose from the autoparts store then I bought a 3/8 inch I.D. Hose Barb Splicer made from brass. I had just under 1/2 inch of the plastic left on the nipple of the AST, the stock water hose was to streched out to attach to the remainder of the nipple. I took 1 end of the 3 inch hose and attached to the remainder of the nipple, the fit was good, fairly tight. I then took a strong nylon fastener and pulled tight. The other end of the hose I stuck 1/2 of the brass Hose Splicer (about 1 inch to each side of the splicer).
When I get home from work I will attach the AST hook up the hoses and splice the other stock hose to the Barb splicer and that should last me till my order gets here on WED afternoon, and I can save this for an emergency backup AST.
