ARC Intake Filters

ARC seems to have changed the filter material in their air induction air boxes. I think it used to be a pleated fabric type but now it is a red foam. Does anyone have any information on the performance difference between the two setups? Is the red foam as good?

FWIW, I don't have this box, and don't have a foam filter, but IIRC from other threads, some thought the foam actually flowed a bit better. The big concern with foam was that it tended dry up and break down, especially with the underhood temps common to FDs.

What should you do to maintain the foam filters. The instructions I have are all in Japanese.

I don't know of anything you can do to "maintain" them, other than washing them out periodically. I assume that if/when they begin to degrade, you simply replace them.

How long do these foam filters last? I tried using Google to translate ARC's airbox webpage. The translation is kind of weak. It seems to indicate that you must clean the sponge/foam every 5000 km (3000 mi) with a mild detergent and then add a proprietary oil??? It then seems to say the sponge must be replaced after 2 - 3 times??

Does this sound reasonable?

Rhode_Dog: I agree with you. I posted but haven't heard from anyone.

Does anyone else have experience with these things?
