Thumbs up Anyone using SARD metal cat?? especially in CA?

Hey guys, I'm trying to find someone (or a few people) using the SARD cat. I need some information regarding passing smog (CA for me) using the SARD cat, but cant seem to find any. Also I was hoping to find out about long term durability from said owners.

So here's my pitch.... If you or anyone you know is using *specifically* the SARD cat on their FD, please please contact me, or leave a post. I wish I could offer a better reward other than my gratutude, but times are tough. Please pass the word along. Thank you. -Heath

I think its hit or miss with emissions and metal cats. I run an SMB and have run a custom Random metal cat. Judging on smell alone, the Bonez cat cleans up the exhaust more than either of those two.

Heck, I know a local guy that couldn't pass on a stock port, stock cat car.

I failed by a large margin with an SMB metallic cat:

I would keep a stock cat for emissions purposes if you get the SARD.

Yeah its easy to fail even using stock everything. I've failed multiple times, which ended up having to do with a vacuum leak, old plugs, and a few other things. But, I can't say ALL metal cats are bad. I have a knightsports metalit (300cpi) cat on one FD which I've passed with for 6 years in a row now. Unfortunately, for the setup im working on for my other project FD, that cat wont fit... but a couple SARD ones will. Ive heard bad things about passing with smb, random, and a few others, but I'm trying to figure out how the SARD one stacks up. -Heath

Interesting... Can you post a pic of that SARD cat?

No one said that the metal cats are bad. I believe there was a thread a long time ago about someone that passed using a Random metal cat and other metal cats but the cat isn't the only part of the equation.

just my 2 cents, My cat that I have is a Random Technology metal cat its not the same brand as yours, but essentially the same internals. My precat is bad, so during the warming up process, my car smells like absolute raw fuel. However once my car gets to full operating temperature, it smells VERY clean. I did pass smog when I installed it last year in august. I passed smog with an Air Pump along with the metal cat, so hope this helps you

so from what i gather, ill pass with the bonez cat? Id like to get my 7 smogged and registered.

Also does anyone know if that pipe connects to the catback(where the two pipes split off? The previous owner had the entire exhaust welded together, with the exception of the mufflers and where it connects to the header. So im thinking i could order the bonez catted pipe, a new catback and be set?

the SARD I want/need to use is basically a core with flanges welded on. its a nissan cat, but the core should be the same as the FD one.
