Anyone ever replace their own ABS pump?

Time to replace my leaking ABS and looking for information on the install and the post bleeding of the system. My experience with other cars is each have their own set of procedures for bleeding the ABS pump (key on, extra valve, etc). Couldn't find anything relating to the FD.

The two mazdas ive been fiddling with,(proteges/323s) have been to just replace unit, turn steering wheel max to one side, fill the system up to max level and leave cap off. have one start the car and slowly turn the steeringwheel to opposite lock while you keep topping up the powersteering fluid. Then, keep turning the steeringwheel from lock to lock a few times. No stress. I dunno if this is the right FD proceadure, but it has worked for me before.

Where is the unit leaking from? If its the pumpside, check to see if there is a copper washing on each side of the hose connection where the bolt goes through. On the return side, if its leaking there, try tightening the hose clamp abit, but not so much you crack the plastic.

ABS = BRAKE

You replace it and do the normal bleeding procedure but it easiest with a power pump bleeder.

I pulled mine to install the Garfinkle brace. Granted, mine wasn't completely dry, but I didn't do any special bleeding procedure after the re-install. I just performed a normal bleeding task and everything was fine.

I had a leaking ABS pump last winter. I replaced it with a used unit and bled the brakes the old fashioned way ( daughter complaining that her leg was tired). It bled out just fine and brakes are great. If you have softness keep bleeding. Do you use a clear hose on the valve to see the fluid/air? Usually if you have play you will get one of those moments where you open the bleeder valve and PSSST, a big air bubble pops out.
