im in for white gauges, red backlight to match interior, and the kmh needs to be mph. if you can get all that, im in.
oh and do you know how much they would be?

how much interest would there be in a replica 99+ gauge (black or white... im not sure how difficult a spirit r one would be to do)? ive done a little experimentation...changing the needle position is not too hard... *only thing is you would loose your green cruise controll indicator. also im assuming that people would want MPH on the speedo, and to keep our oil pressure meeters right? im still looking into a solution to keep the cruise indicator, but it would be a signifigantly more complicated thing to do.

please let me know if

A) people are interested in 99+ gauge face conversions at all (and what color face (white or black.....i will post pics if you havent seen the 99 styles).....also what color illumination (red/green) would people be interested in, keep in mind in japan they have both and if we were to want green, we would have to change all the other lights in the car.

B) how important the green "cruise" illumination in the tach would be to people

thanks, heath

yeah, i'm assuming most people will want MPH (thats what i personally want). im also assuming that people will want the amber backlighting so all our interior lights match. (some 99+ gauges use green).

as of now i have absolutely no idea how much they would cost, as im just getting started on this, but i can guess that the more we make, the cheaper it will be im working w/ a few places to get the best quality & cheapest price. -heath

ps please ask questions, give comments, requests, or recomendations for this project if you have any

it should be almost identical to the originals. im even trying to find a place that will indent the middle of the tach like mazda does.

just so everyone knows spirit R has a grey face, then there is white, and black. id like to do one run of the most popular style first... if that works out i may make others. heath

ps (ive never seen a spirit r gauge set in person...does the "spirit R" logo light up or not?...that may be hard to do).

hmmm interesting...looking at the spirit r tach the middle doesnt seem to be indented.... anyone got a super close up??? (this may be a better question for our friends in japan...anyone have friends in japan?)

you tell me.... i was thinking oil pressure unless there is a boost gauge that we can fit easily in the stock enclosure and can make a face for that will match. id probably say that its better to stick w/ oil pressure but someone chime in if you disagree. heath

I have the 2000 model with black gauges and green backlite. I like the green though but my speedo shows up to 180Km!!!! i would prefer a speedo that would read more and i plan to change it. I like yours that shows more y you want to put a speedo that reads up to 180Km??????

the black one i posted is from a guy in the UK who had his FD imported from Japan. he changed it to MPH and recalibrated it i think... but im not 100% sure

the speedo that i would like to make would be the same as the one we all have right now except it would have the italic lettering like the 99+ speedo

can somone do me a favor and post a pic of our stock gauges so we can compare? thanks heath

Well, mine reads km/hr and goes to 280. I'd pin the 180 km/hr one too frequently ;-). That's just over 100 mph (112.5 mph). OTOH, it might make me drive at more reasonable speeds.

ok the first company that responded said they would do a minimum run of 150 sets. there are still a few other companys that im looking into, but there definately has to be more interest before this can move forward.

In addition to the 99+ version, do you think you could replicate the Rx8 color scheme look. I really love the way those gauges look in the day time. White numbers over a black background.

hrmmm is there any reason why the needles are all always orange? i've been looking for a conversion using either black or blue needle, with white face/black numbers (blue after redline) during day and blue backlight at night.. or something like this.. just completely eliminating the red and orange.. im tired of those same old orange components
