Thumbs down another highlight in the silicone hose change event...

i think i might be able to set a world record for the most problems encountered while changing the vacuum hoses...

i was moving along fine tonight until i got to the fuel rail side, the hoses closer to the rear in particular. i found and changed most of the deep hoses without too much hassle, but when i got to the hose that runs from the solenoid rack maze to the device on the end of the fuel rail, i was in for a suprise...

i pulled the hose from the nipple on what i am pretty sure is the pulsation dampener (looks like the fuel pressure regulator, but a little bigger and its on the other rail, correct me if im wrong please), and the top started bubbling fuel bubbles from a small pin-like hole, then a small plastic ball popped out like a cork kind of, causing the hole to get bigger, and raw fuel started flowing out of the hole and dripping all over the garage floor. that pissed me off.

anyways, i clamped the fuel hose with my vice grips that i had lying right on the side for another problem last night, and cleaned up as much of the spilt gas as i could. i finally called it a night just right now, after a few unsuccessful attempts of trying to ram the plastic ball back into the hole with the tip of my screwdriver.

so kids, that was my story of the night. i hope you enjoyed it.

PLEASE RESPOND AND LET ME KNOW IF THAT WAS NOT THE PULSATION DAMPENER, I AM GOING IN TO MAZ-DUH TO BUY A NEW ONE TOMORROW, and i will feel very retarded if i go all the way down there and bring home the wrong part. if this helps, on the (circular) top of the part, it reads DENSO 195251-0210.

Was it attached to the primary fuel rail?
The section you said that broke off, did it look like a litle rubber nipple sticking out the top center of it?

If so, then it IS the fuel pulsation dampner. Think of it this way. Better that it broke now than if it had broken after you had put everything back on.

I agree, get a shop manual. It's the big fat green book. It's about $50-$80 depending on where you get it.

The Electrical manual isn't needed as often, but it does contain some good information.

yeah, i downloaded the shop manual a while back. but i only asked because on the vacuum diagram i have it names the pressure regulator in the schematic but not the pulsation dampener.

just wanted to be sure that was the right part. i was pretty sure that was what it was because i already replaced the pressure regulator a few months ago, and it was a different but similar part.

why did they even put that rubber plug in the top? why not leave the top sealed like the pressure reg?

thanks for the feedback, and i agree, the factory shop manual is the best resource for working on any car. it is great that somebody has it posted to download.

In the Mazda manual... F-105 (item 10) is where the the pulsation dampener is located. That diagram should show you everything you need to know in order to determine which part you're talking about.
