Air/fuel install

Hey guys is it ok to tap into the 02 wire to get the AIR/FUEL ratio guage going? What gauge you guys use for AIR/FUEL anyway? Im trying to decide what to get to cover my gauge pods as far as AIR/FUEL and also I would like to keep track of lean/rich condition anway.

Wow rice out the fd much??

"what to get to cover my gauge pods"

Ummm.. Maybe a boost gauge and a water temp. And then you can throw the A/F gauge out the window because it doesnt tell you anything anyway.

And any more questions on f&f ricer **** try useing this >>>

More functional with excessive mods...but with excessive mods comes more **** like PFC which would eliminate the AF.

i agree with rotarynemesis, a/f ratio gauge is usless. get a true wideband to tune, do not tune with any kind of o2 sensor tapping type a/f ratio gauge.

I consider the air/fuel gauge my "guide to better gas mileage" gauge.

Light show (closed loop) = good gas mileage
Pegged rich (open loop) = you're drinking gas like crazy

I've been able to do as well as 21 mpg while commuting if I watch the gauge.

are you serious? it only kinda works and will go in to the rich area when your WOT which duh means your gonna be drinking gas like crazy! im pretty sure its common sense that if your hammering it from every stop light to stop light, your not gonna be getting good gas millage.

its great that you are getting 21mpg (god i wish any of my cars would get that good millage) but if i were you, id pay attention to the road, boost or water temp gauge more.

BTW: O2 sensor only goes in to open loop (or was that closed loop) when your using cruise control i believe.

Of course the ECU goes into open loop when you're hammering away. It's well established that the a/f gauge is useless for determining whether or not you're safe under boost.

Did you know that in most cases, it will also go into open loop as soon as you hit 3k RPM? Particularly in any gear except 5th gear.

Viewing my a/f gauge doesn't affect my ability to watch the road since it's mounted right below the tach (it's part of the J&S dual monitor).

The ECU is in closed loop at idle and cruise. That's when you get the light show. That's when you get good mileage.

I've been able to get 21 mpg in my commute that is not all freeway. I get stuck in some stop-n-go bs and I usually blow out the carbon at least once a day.

Be wise and save your money for a wideband O2 set up. The stock sensor basically can only tell if its above or below 14.7 which is useless. It could read rich and still be too lean.
