accelleration problem at mid RPM

I was hoping someone can help me with this, I have noticed over the last week my car has been acting strange. It stared a few weeks ago with an uneven idle. the idle would miss then it would jump slightly, not smooth.

the next problem started a week or so ago. Sometimes (maybe 50-60 pct of the time) when accelerating once I hit 3500-4500 range my car would have massive hesitation. It would almost feel like a rev limiter where I would fall flat on my face. It would just loose all power and accelerate very slow.

Today along with the problem above my car started backfiring. even if I was in 5th gear at 1900 rpm, when I let off the gas it would backfire. Not even 1 or 2 backfires but sometimes as much as 5 or 10. This could go on for 30 minutes, every single time I hit the gas and let off backfire. Then it would clear up and not backfire at all. Then maybe an hour later it would do it again.

What ever is happening is not consistent because sometimes it appears to accelerate fine without this massive hesistation or backfiring and other times it has these problems.

does anyone have any idea's? i have a 94, its daily driven and only recently has started doing this. Thanks!

car has 1200 CC secondarys that I have had for about 1.5 years. I would estimate 30K miles on them. I have apexi N1 duals, highflow cat, highflow fuel pump, ported engine with about 15K miles on it. tuned power fc and a few other mods I cant think of now.

oh yea its a 5 speed. thanks.

I'm having the same problem , I was guessing because of the 4500rpm issue it has to be something to do with my turbo transition ( i hav seq) so ths weekend im goin non-seq. but I'm sure its sumthing to do with fuel.
I think its running lean under high boost therefore cutting out, But i agree with you, why is it starting now?????

This morning I drive my car to work, I can rev the hell out of it, it idles perfect doesn't backfire and doesn't cut out. I'm sure later today if i drove it it would start cutting out again.

I'm getting my plugs changed today.

I have the same problem, I have changed my plugs and wires and fuel filter but it is still happening. Do you have any idea of what your injector duty cycles are peaking at?

The 3500 hesitation is a common probelm among the fd3s, i read about it in a TSB one time, i will go look for my list of TSB's and write some more.

Check you plugs & install grounding straps

You may also benefit from an ignition amp(HKS Twin Power) that cleared up my hesitation.

Pop_Goes_The_Wankel - are you talking about a hesitation or more of a decelaration during WOT at mid rpms? My car feels like I kicked off a rev limiter and slows me down its almost a scary feeling like I f'ed something up real bad. My idle also hunts, It will be idling fine then it drops, almost stalls and then it revs up to like 1200 and then settles down again. I also get a lot of backfiring

This isn't 3000 RPM hesistation. PLease dont get confused. I'm talking about launching my car and when it hits around 4000 RPM it falls flat on its face and STOPS. All I can do is stop the car and go back to IDLE. It hits some wierd fuel/ignition cut or something sometimes at that point.

anyway, I got my plugs changed yesterday and it runs way better now. I have not had that problem return YET, but again, it doesn't happen all the time. It usually happens after the car has run for a while, so I may not know until this weekend.

I'm suspecting my leading coil right now.
