Abs

So, i am sure a few of you are starting to notice that i have been posting a lot latly. Well i wanna learn everything about the car. I have been and done everything on the car from rebuilding the motor, clutches, painting it, much more. But i am still learing how to diagnose all of the minor problems. So here is my question.

I did the search on the 3rd gen forum and read up on the many ways that the abs light could come on. I was just wanting some first hand knowlege to maybe point me in the right direction of where to look first.

Well as the title says the abs light just started coming on tonight. I noticed that i did not come on until i started the car in a forward movement. I could let the car idle and hit the brakes plenty of times and that did not make it come on. But as soon as i went forward it came on for sure.

Does this mean that i should start with the speed sensors and check to see if the lines are broken or possibly the sensors are just dirty. I have heard that that can cause the light to come on. And also, just check the connections them selfs. I also have heard that if they come loose it will cause the light to come on.

Where do i start?

I would take it to the car wash first and try to clean them off a little.

So, i was thinking the same thing. But i work at a shop so i will just use some brake cleaner. But if that does not take care of the problem. Where should i go from there?

Section P of the 93 workshop manual will give you a good start on a diagnosis of your problem. Study that and come back with your results.

I'd def look at the sensors. Metal shavings build up on the sensor and I guess could eventually "blind" it.

If they aren't dirty I'd look to test them all individually. Front sensors get screwed up from people hanging the hub by the wires when working on the suspension.
