99spec 4-channel ABS?

Anyone know anything about it? Advantage of a 4-channel (vs. our 3-channel) unit? Anyone switch over (which I'm guessing would require the pump, lines, and computer)?

I priced out some of the hardware for a customer - very, very expensive. Almost never comes up on yahoo either.

Yea I've found the ABS pump/unit a few times, but no ECU or lines. Wanna know if it's worthwhile or not...

4 channel abs has a separate channel for each rear wheel. Currently, the ABS system can only respond to rear wheel lockup under braking by modulating pressure to both rear wheels in unison. With a 4 channel system, it can control each rear wheel independantly, allowing the wheel with traction to maintain braking system pressure and slow the car better.

In other words, 4 channel is better than 3.

In order to take advantage of this you would need dedicated feed line to each rear caliper correct? I don't see how this is useful if you are using a T'd brake feed.

Yes, you'd have to have two lines to the back.

In order to do this, I presume you'd need a new pump (one with 4 outputs), a new abs ecu, and probably a new harness too.

I don't think the gain is enough to justify the cost and pain in the *** to swap over to the 4 channel system.

Also the 99spec upgraded ABS is faster and behaves better then the stock ABS. Personally I used to keep mine off as it would kick in under hard braking for a turn. Which was very very bad. I've yet to play with the upgraded version but if you can get your hands on one give it a shot. It may be nice to have.

You would need to purchase a whole 4-channel pullout. Anyone have a guestimate as to the market value of a slightly used 4chnl abs system?

Yes. Look on your ABS unit. If there are four lines on it (vs. the pre-99 ones that only have 3 lines coming off of it) then yours is a 4-channel unit

ABS and braking hardware is different in 98-00 (version V) and different again in 00-02 (version VI). The last version is (obviously) the best - 16bit ecu and electronic brake distribution.

the pump alone was about US$800 (I'll dig out the exact price if your really interested, PM me). I haven't priced the rest of it because I simply don't know exactly what bits and pieces are required to get it all up and running.

DaiOni, would you mind getting the prices on the lines and the computer? Cuz the pumps do pop up used every now and then... it's the other parts that I can't find.

canadaisintexas, would ya mind askin Jimlab about it? Him and I aren't exactly on speaking terms, so he wouldn't reply if I asked him

Thanks

if you can identify all the bits needed (inc numbers) - I'll do the pricing.

put it this way, identify what you can from 13bpower, and I'll see what I can do about the rest.
