99 spec engine and wiring

I am looking at a 93 R1 with a full 99 motor, tranny, turbos, intake, sensors, and everything. I have both 32bit 99 ECU and wiring, along with US 93, new ecu, new wiring harness.

Will I be able to install the 93 harness onto the 99 sensors? What does the 32bit vs 16 mean? I did a 97 into a 93 before, but not the 99 when they went to 32bit ecus.
Thanks

Well, it would be mighty tricky. The '99 electronics is pretty much not documented in English as far as I know.

IMHO, run the '93-95 US system (wiring, etc.) and put a PowerFC on. You'll be way ahead of the curve at that point.

Don't know too much about the overall problem, but the 32 bit vs 16 means that the data path is simply bigger. That could refer to several aspects of the sensor-ECU system. It could be that the ECU is 32 bit and therefore has the capacity of handling a larger amount of data at the same time?
My guess is that they would have different plugs. I imagine that swapping harnesses in a car is not as frequent and "home made" as swapping CPUs and memory chips in computers, but it is possible that they have different connectors to avoid confusion. I don't know if you have 32 bit sensors and 32 bit ECU. It could be that the 32 Bit ECU can still read signals from 16 bit sensors, but certainly it is not the other way around.
I don't know if this helps you...

That does,

But the 99 uses a black box for the emissions harness. Now the connectors do not match. I am going to use 93 components for what does not match.

My brother and me have an ociloscope and a fair amount of knowledge, should be fun.

in another thread someone wrote that he used all the 99 parts (sensors, turbos etc) and he extended the harness to fit to an US model. can't remember which thread.
btw the 99+ ECU is 16bit. the 93-95 models are 8bit. 96-98 are 16bit also but probably not the same as the 99+

Could you check and see if you remember?

I can not find any documentation for a 99 wiring in US I would like use the 99 is possible, seeing as the car is already setup for the 99.

I will try contacting dragon in japan, a member here who speaks fluent english.

I do https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/99-rats-nest-replacement-block-315993/ Not much detail though, unfortunately.

Exactly. I don't know where ppl get the whole 32-bit idea

96-98 are 16bit also but probably not the same as the 99+
More precisely, it's the '98s that featured the upgraded 16-bit ECUs, along w/ the "99spec" features (so yes, "99spec" is actually a misnomer). But the '91 (yes FD's were first produced in '91) - '97s had 8-bit ECUs.

FD, did you end up doing it? I am reading through the thread. Here is what I bought.

1993 R1, Midnight Black.
Complete 99 drivetrain. Engine, turbos, turbo, PPF, diff. Wiring and ECU.

Is there any pin out of the japan ECU so I can connect the 93 body harness into the 99 ECU?

If not, what sensors off the 99 can I keep? What about the Map sensor, TPS? Can I keep the JDM 99 intake manifolds or do I need to replace them?

I have a brand new OEM mazda wiring harness and ECU, LIM, and 90% of the sensors off a 93.

I cut both harness in half Japan and US, as for the black box I still used the connectors that came with it and traced it back to the ecu pin using the old harness on the ECU side. The wire colors are the same on most of them but definately use a wiring diagram to be sure that it's going to the right ECU pin. It took me 3 hours to rewire the engine harness.

Ok.

I am going to swap to a 93 LIM, emissions, and UIM. I have to pass emissions and this will make everything easier.

I searched and its just a gigantic PITA and I have less then 4 days to make it work.

I, and a lot of other people would greatly appreciate having a better understanding of this project.
Is there any chance you could post the JDM harness wiring diagram you used (if you did use one for the 99 half) and/or could someone post a pic of their 99 solenoid box and where it was placed in your 1993 engine bay?
Also, could you post your impressions on how well the setup is working for you compared to 1993 OEM? How did you resolve the lack of an EGR connection?
Any other issues? A lot of members who haven't seen the 99 box might benefit or have a better understanding if we could see a pic of one.....
1 pic=1000 words
4 or 5 pics.... priceless !

Finally, Can a PFC user explain which connectors from which harnesses connect to the PFC ? The 2 yellow Emissions harness connectors and two yellow front harness connectors (all 4 yellow ECU connectors)? or...?

Thanks !

Did it. Used the complete 99 intakes, sensors, black box. But with a 93 ECU and wiring harness. Only had to lengthen 2 connectors. You guys are going to love this. Will post a guide tomorrow.
