93 vs. 94 vs. 95 reliability

i did a search on reliability a few days ago and read that 94s and 95s were a lot more reliable than the 93s. can't find that post again, but is this true?

Never had a 93, but I own a 94 and I can say that all the RX-7's just need a lot of TLC. They are grat cars if your wallet will allow it. You just have to treat them like a 1 year old. Always needing something. : )

there is not much different in reliability between the years. however the 93 do generally have more miles on them then the 95 and that extra 2 years is sometimes what makes the rubber hoses in the engine bay start to crack. the difference between the years is really just cosmetic things like paint and interior chipping. i used to own a 94 touring and now i own a 93 r1. it all depends on how the car was prevousily taken care of.

Mazdaspeed00 has it pretty much right. Although there are a lot of parrots out there that just repeat info they hear, 94s and 95s aren't really more reliable than 93s. If you run through a TSB list on a 93 you'll notice a lot of cosmetic fixes, paint, interior finish changes, etc.

As the cars are getting older it doesn't really matter which was better new, it matters which was better taken care of.

there is also about 80% less 95 cars out there on the road to be comparting them to, so it really is not easy due to the shear lack of 95's produced.. the numbers are like this....

93= ~8500 cars
94= ~3500 cars
95= ~1500 cars.....i think this is close.....i saw the thread a couple of days ago, and for some reason, i think that th e95 number is high....

For '95 the number is 500. FWIW, the later models (especially '95s) have all the TSBs taken care of, and there are A LOT, so those problems (which are most common) will not occur. The TSBs are all pretty minor, but some of them are annoying (like rattles, etc). As far as, will a '95 engine last longer or will the turbos last longer, probably not, the major components are essentially the same.
