NY 93 rx7 question

i found a nice black 93 rx7 that i am interested in purchasing for myself i looked at the car an there are a few things that concern me. first its a touring model i belive it looks like some one put the r1 front lip an rear spoiler but has no acoustic sound system in rear someone may have taken it out. it has moonroof an its black with black leather interior. my question regarding that is how can i tell what model im about to pick up.?

now my next question to all you gurus out there when i looked at the interior i noticed that that dashboard looked different then my other 93 it looks like it has a passanger side air bag an the center console has a little textured black finish like a 94 as well as vin numbers match on everything an doesnt look like anything was tampered with. now my question is did maybe some 93 rx7 later model 93's may have came with 94 interiors have any of you guys ever came across this let me know thanks.

going by features, the passenger airbag makes it a 94, or 95.

moon roof 94-95 touring, it should also have a rear wiper, and the bose, as well.

the R1 lip goes right on, is nice to have too.

in the vin number there is a letter for the year, JM1FD33102 P is 1993 model, R is 1994, and S is 1995.

there is also a sticker in the door jamb that fives you the build date. all the US 1993 models were made from 12/1991 to about 6/1992. the 1994 models were mostly built in 1993.

if the door jamb sticker is missing, and the vin is a 93, but the rest of the car is an unmolested 94+ its probably been stolen, and been to a chop shop, or something.

if you like you can pm me the vin, and i can run the warranty history, if it comes up as a protege, run!

Just get the Vin # because these cars are over 20 years old now and who knows what the previous owners have done to them. In other words, you shouldn't let the options confuse you about the year. For example, maybe the car originally did have a rear wiper (which makes it a touring) but a previous owner hated it and therefore removed it. You just don't know.

Take my car for example: it is a 94 PEP but I have a year build sticker of 92 (forget the month). Also I added a bose wave tube, have recently replaced my tan leather seats with 93 R1 black cloth ones with 93 seat belts (but I may switch my seat belts back as I'm not a fan of the 93's)

^Agree regarding seats, front lip etc. But a passenger side air-bag on a 93? That would mean the dash was changed which would make me nervous. Plus questions on the SRS system.

more likely to be a 94 that the guy thinks is a 93, or there is some vin swappery going on. we see it at the dealership here and there. car is silver automatic, and the vin says its a blue manual...

^I see it at work "here and there" too. That's why it would make me nervous. Seller insists it's a 93.

Call Mazda customer service 800-222-5500 give them the VIN, they will tell you exactly what was on it when it left the factory floor.

there is no pass airbag in a 93. the touring will have the sunroof and leather seats and cruise control (dont know if they all came with cruise or not, but it has the buttons on the steering wheel). it did come with a bose system (i took mine out). a lip and spoiler can be added but i do not think they came on the touring but might have been an option. i have a 93 touring.

Make sure you are using the VIN stamped on the firewall and not the sticker in the jamb... I can order those stickers very easily if I wanted to.

I get them from a vendor on line. You have to be a certified body repair facility to get them. We also send in a photo of the old one. But if someone wanted to change a VIN sticker all you would need to be is a certified repair center and have a photo of the tag you wanted to change it to.
