Would a new exhaust system, intake, port, and slightly larger turbo do it?

well if you upgrade the turbo you are going to have to upgrade the ecu, fuel pump, fuel injectors, intercooler.

post 6 will help you... search and see what people who have dynoed 400 have done. The best thing is to just research because not everyone does it right or what you want. Also what do you want out of your car? high end/low end power? drag, auto x ect.

Assuming your engine is built on good parts able to takes miles of abuse;
you want to keep your fuel nice and happy so don't skimp on your fuel system, water/meth Injection helps keep things happy too.., good exhaust, cooling, ignition, and most important is the person who tunes it.

These can get you started too..

A-Spec 500R-SP single turbo kit
Street port would be nice but not required
Block-off kit
PowerFC ECU
HKS twin-power ignition amp.
9 leading spark plug
New quality spark plug wires
Denso fuel pump
550/1600cc or 850/1600 injectors (aftermarket fuel rails required)
Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator
boost controller
3" exhaust minimum + Racing Beat cat-back (unless you want a big canister exhaust for noise)
High-flow cat or a midpipe
upgrade intercooler
blow-off valve
aluminum radiator (Koyo, fluidyne etc)
dual oil coolers?
GM 3 bar map sensor (for reliability/accuracy)
stronger clutch to take the power?
Some gauges so you can keep an eye on things
A tuner that won't blow up your engine
15-16 pounds of boost and some ***** of steel to hang on

Any reliability mods you haven't done yet...

Did I forget anything? lol

I want to build a car that can hold its own on the 1/4 mile while still being a fun and useable car.

Then add a methanol injection kit to my list and run 20+ PSi of boost giving you over 500 rwhp. Again tuner that won't blow up your engine required. But if your going the methanol route, make sure you do a lot of reading because you need to monitor some things yourself.

A lot of people don't realize what a 400 rwhp FD feels like. Our cars are really light in comparison to other big horsepower makers.

lol, I wonder what that would be and how much power it would make. ErnieT has hit almost 800 HP but I still think you can go bigger.

my friend's car dyno'd at 365ish at the wheels on pump gas.

-large street port
-apexi rx6b kit
-pfc + boost control unit
-koyo rad
-greddy fmic
-850cc primary 1600cc secondary
-walbro pump
-hks twin pwr
-full exhaust

he took me for a spin and i was surprised how super fast that thing spooled up and it wasn't even dialed in all the way, im sure with a better tune he could hit bigger numbers.

My car dynoed at 380whp at 7krpm coz the pipes kept poppinf off the man. boost controller we were using.

My setup is:
Street port
non-seq. twins (best thing ever) ceramic coated
3inch full exhaust with Apexi CB
BMC air filters
Ceramic coated intake manifolds and boost pipes
Ceramic coated DP
Made some shields to keep heat away from air filters
Big alum radiator
Stock IC so intake temps were terrible
Microtech ECU
Stock blow off valve
guages to monitor everything
and around 12psi boost

Main thing is keep everything going in cold, and coming out hot. (FD engine bay is an oven so very important)

U dont need huge mods to make power, just utilize what u have. It's the small details that make the difference. Heat robs power unbelievably, keep it cold and it makes a huge difference. (AND IN GOOD CONDITION!!!)

Ill have over 400whp with the new IC coming and vented hood is also important for cooling an FD. Keep oil cool too.

It really starts with a good engine build; If your using parts that are marginal you may not get the life you want... other then that what people have said and research

^^True that....

And really what are your 1/4 mile goals?? B/C as stated above a 400whp FD is MUCH quicker (into 10's) than most other 400hp cars. I hold my own quite well with 500/550hp cars. And depending on your track once you get so fast you will be kicked out for not having a roll cage.

Ok, without bolting on the biggest turbo, then just get the biggest LSX swap you can and you'll get 400 rwhp easy and reliable.

Or you can stay with the so-so reliable rotary and put on a T04S with all the bolt on and reliability mods. Don't forget a rebuilt engine.

Either way, in order to get 400hp, it won't be cheap. You better have deep pockets or be the owner of Ford.

I see the mods have deleted all the other posts mentioning LSx swaps (including mine).

That's really petty.....

I'm calling BS on your 380RWHP claim at 12psi. There is simply no way what your saying is factual.

There is a forum to discuss engine conversions and that is not this section. The policy has not changed, this is the way it has been since the creation of the "Other Engine Conversion" section.
