Talking FINALLY got my aquamist water injection in and running

After way too long (purchased the kit in like Sept of 03) and a clogged pump setback, my water inj system is in and running. As usual, chris carlisi was instrumental in the install. It is a pretty trick setup---I am using the stock washer tank as a reservoir, and the pump is mounted directly to the driver's side toe hook. All wiring, the relay etc is all in the driver's front corner of the engine bay.

It is set up now as a 1s system, metering fluid through the biggest nozzle (0.9mm) after 9 psi. I am only missing one module to turn it into the 2d system, which injects fluid at a variable rate based on fuel inj duty cycle. I also still need to mount the interior led display box.

Because I wanted to use the washer tank and because the pump should be below the tank to get the gravity feed effect, the toe hook was the only good solution we could find. the pump is tucked up out of the way, and if I bottom out the toe hook itself should save the pump from damage. I also think the pump will last longer not being subjected to constant engine bay heat. I am working on a solution to keep the pump relatively clean/dry.

Right now I am injecting windshield washer fluid, but plan to research methanol. Any feedback from guys with existing setups?

I am so friggin happy this thing is finally in and running right. It's nice knowing detonation should be a thing of the past (knocks on wood). Finding the time and patience to get it done right seemed to take forever--I suppose it's a bit of a steep learning curve. Hell, I would rather R&R and build a motor than install one of these things.

And pics will be up soon, they are on chris' camera.

Did you notice anything different? Like... does it feel safer? I'm very curious...

And to think all this time you've been mouthing off on how it's the best thing since sliced bread, but it took you this long to install it!

My knock readings dropped from mid 70s down to mid 40s. I made numerous 40 mph to 125 mph pulls last night and my intake temps stayed constant at around 25 degrees C. I was hoping to see them drop, but perhaps the temps were too low to drop anymore.

I unplugged the injection line and routed it by my windshield, and also later checked that the nozzle was unobstructed to verify that the system was working.

Nice to see that you got the bugs worked out Rich!

What psi do you have your injector come on at? How much does it flow?

You might need a bigger injector since you are moving ALOT of air and running more power.

After that you might want to try a 50/50 mix. I noticed with straight water my knock went to the single digits on the PFC but less power by the butt dyno. With the 50/50 it feels like its all back with still a single count knock on the PFC.

I'm running a autox this weekend to see how it does under track conditions.

Hi Bob,

I have the injector coming online at 9 psi. I'm using the biggest injector the kit provided, 0.9mm. I may have to surf over to their website and look for a bigger injector.

Where are you getting your methanol from? right now I am injecting windshield washer fluid, and although my knock #s went down from 70ish to 40ish, my intake temps didn't drop the way I thought they would.

What was the ambient temp during your runs?

Please post some pics, I want to use the windshield washer tank also.

I went to this place called Smiley's Racing. $5 dollars for 2 gallons.

There is a sticky at turbobuick with locations to get methanol

hey Rich,

did you notice anything different on your wideband with the alky injection on versus off?

water has a much lower evaporative flash than alcohol especially when you have fairly low (intercooled and winter ambient) temps. so don't look for a big drop in IAT w water. do look for better knock and egts.

water does lower combustion temp more than alcohol, that's of course why your knock reduced.

you will get a larger IAT reduction as ambient temps rise during the summer.

the benefits of properly sized, installed and tuned AI (auxiliary injection) whether water and/or alcohol are currently under-appreciated, IMO, by our rotary community. given the fact that the rotary runs so much more egt than a piston engine and can have such a short life due to thermal considerations if i were an investor i'd be buying stock in AI...

i am finishing my Alkycontrol methanol system... a 4 gallon fuel cell located low in the pass side rear of the sparetire wheelwell w my pump protected behind the underskirt panel just in front of the driver's side rear axle. all aeroquip. fuelcell vented to the gas door so as to be invisable. dual nozzles. progressive. 100% methanol of course. i will post pictures and of course results in a few weeks.

unless you "tune up" for water you will make less hp. "tune up" as in more timing and/or boost. most tune w a primary eye for knock readings as timing/boost are raised.

Negative. EGTs dropped by about 100 degrees F.
