Is a 1100-1200 Idle normal?

I had about a 1500 RPM idle so I did that vac hose job and I got it down to about 850. Then the next day I started the car and **** like that... it was at about 1k. Today I started the car and its at 1100-1200. After it gets warm, it usually drops back down to 900ish. Just about 10 minutes ago I started the car while completly cold (weather outsied is about 40) and it was constantly at 1150. When I turned the AC on to 4, it dropped to like 950. When I shift into first the idle jumps up like 50-100 RPM's. What the heck is my problem. I REALLY dont want to do another vac-hose job unless I know EXACTLY where the leak is IF it even is a leak.

Some specs of my car are:

-its completly bone stock. The engine has 89600 miles on it (original motor, but still runs really strong... compression check soon)

-battery is just about to die

-i believe i have an exhaust leak (ticking sound down by the turbo's/y-pipe/exhaust area

-1 of my belts are loose, not sure what one it is but its the one closest to the passenger side

-1 black skinny wire is loose/not connected to anything/snapped at the end, its the wire that is under the y-pipe (what ever is down there) i found the other end just floating around by the tranny.

if u need to know anything else more specific, let me know. ill help u in any way to be more specific, and ill also take pictures/soundclips if u need some to try to help me out.

ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL!

thanks in advanced

MANNY

Lemme guess - it's colder there than usual?

Hell that's about normal for 40 deg. weather. Idles up when it's cold. If it wants to stay up even after motor's warmed up - and even after you do your best to adjust the idle - check out the dashpot. It's working end is a white nylon plunger that catches the throttle mech. at about 1500 RPM and drops it slowly to idle speed. (It's to the right and a little lower than the throttle adjusting screw) If it gets gunked up, it won't let the throttle down far enough. Squirt some solvent in it and blow it out.

Need more info on the little black wire. The Y pipe runs from back to front. Which end is the wire at?

There's only four low wires that should reach outside the LIM behind the Y pipe. The one near the middle goes to the EGR switch, which is California only and may be there but not connected, since the civilized world doesn't use an EGR switch. Check for error codes. If you get a 16, you got youself a California car and the EGR switch may be disconected.

One wire near the front may be of interest. It goes to the temp sensor and gets corroded right behind the idiot plug and may break off. That could sure increase your idle, but it would do it all the time, not just at warm up.

An idiot plug is any electrical connector that snaps together in only one orentation. I.E., any idiot should be able to get it right.

Still hard to tell, but that wire looks like the one to your O2 sensor. The red one with the fm spade lug went to an A/F guage at one time is my bet. Do you have an A/F guage? Does it work?

The ECU needs the O2 sensor. Right beside the lift hook, toward the driver, is the idiot plug that the O2 sensor wire snaps into. Look to see if it's there and hooked up. The plug is attached to and just behind the UIM via a strap.

You should get yourself a service manual. Sometimes it even gives you a clue as to what you need to do.

A place to download it is: www.iluvmyrx7.com
But they're down right now - maybe they got busted?
