You would be amazed what just some paint, storage solutions, and some organizing and planning can do. You don't need a huge budget. Big thing is taking the time to make a plan and figure out what your storage and workspace needs are.

I spent probably $3000 on my garage re-do, a lot of that expense was a new air compressor, $500 for flooring, renting a storage pod while I was working on it, etc. Also a LOT of $50 a sheet 3/4" plywood to make cabinets out of .

I don't have a very big garage, it's a one car that's at least fairly deep (at least with an RX-7 parked in it!). I do have a decent amount of space at the end of the garage for a work area at least. Planning around space limitations and making the most of the space was key.

Also I wanted to be able to put up everything - no open shelves stacked with junk. Also wanted to keep the floor clear so I can easily clean it up without piles of stuff on the floor. Since the workspace is on the small side I wanted moveable workspaces -I have one rolling work table that's height adjustable (thing is AWESOME) and a small rolling tool box. Also added a tool cart to roll out to the driveway to put tools and parts on while working on a car.

I planned and built all the cabinets from scratch. That took a LOT of time. Many of them are custom sized to the storage needs - the largest cabinet was built around my miter saw so it has a good place to be stored and can easily be brought out.

The other huge project was the floors. They are VCT, vinyl commercial tile. You see it every day at the grocery store, they are cheap and BULLETPROOF for a flooring option. 69 cents a square foot, just get the surface good and clean, trowel down adhesive, and lay them out. Seal and wax. Upkeep is just mopping/dusting and maybe a coat of wax to shine it up.

I spent more than I planned, but I've been half-assing my garage for too long, it was always a mess, I would do some minor project to clean or add storage, and it never had a cohesive look and purpose. So happy with the final result.

And the FD is very happy parked in there .

Dale

OCD clean! Nice job. My washer and dryer inside the house has more clutter and wouldn’t pass the white glove test like this does. Nice use of space.
As soon as I open my shop it is covered with oak pollen and cedar dust. Car covers are a must around here!

Self-storage Move In

Best space I’ve ever had...just moving in...used pallet racks in back allow me to store all the way to 10.5 feet

‘94 being converted to a ‘mostly-track’ slave. Been hoping for this for about 25 years

Here's a quick picture that I took last night. We're getting our yard dug up to run water & sewer lines so I had to cram everything in to our garage.

@Rwrhein What self storage place is this and where? I've never come across one that would allow a renter to use the space to work on a vehicle. Are there power drops inside the unit/s?

Thanks. They are 1x2 porcelain tiles I put down a while ago. Hard as concrete and easy clean with a bucket scrub and squeegee.

It's not quite the "garage-mahal" that lots of you guys have, but I finally picked up a 4-post lift for my typical 2 car suburbia garage, so now my 2 car garage fits 3, and I don't even have to think about selling one of my 2 rotaries. Should have done this YEARS ago!!!

Pete,

Damn, that's awesome! Now you need a black FB to complete the garage collection.

Although, my sort order would be: FB left side, FC right side (underneath), and FD above the FC.

How tall is your garage?

Thanks, the garage ceiling height under the beam that runs across is 9'-2", which is the lowest spot. The ceiling height forward of the beam is about 11'-6". If I back the top car in (tested it with FC & FD) instead of going in nose first, I can raise the lift all the way to the top lock because the lower 1/3 of the windshield ends up under the beam.

Maybe some day, but I still need the FC while I'm working on the FD to finish it up and get it as bullet proof as my FC is.

That lift looks great, Pete! Nice to be able to keep both indoors too and not out in the weather.

Now you need a coat of paint on the walls of the garage .

Got this done last summer after I bought a Denali that deserved a spot indoors. Fun times....I drive the FD even less now😂

looks like you had enough room forward for the lift without having to lose the space up top...
