There is a jack plate which rides the middle opening, in between the two runways. Rear is easy, as I jack the car up from the diff. The front is done using two OEM jacks, going simultaneously. Greg Smith Equipment sells a hydraulic jack for this purpose, but they didnt have it in stock when I got the lift. One of these days, Ill make a trip and get one.
Thanks, George. I can't believe I had this particular car posted for sale on the Forum on a few occasions. Even harder to believe, I think at one point I cut the price down to $23k. I'm glad I regained my senses and kept the car. I've had it since '99 as the second owner. My wife dare not ask for me to sell it ....
Here's mine, although sadly not very pretty compared to what other people have (I can only dream of having something like that), but at least it's way better than being outside to the harsh Caribbean sun and elements!!
Mine is a little tight but I think I make pretty good use of what little space I have. There are also 5 bikes hanging from the ceiling and now there are 2 garbage containers and a snow blower parked between the two cars.
I'm jealous of the GC8. I've tried buying a silver 2000 STI last year but the seller backed out at the last second. I was literally on my way to his house, cash in hand, when he changed his mind.
Thanks. The GC8 is a project for this spring. It is currently stock with an auto trans and is currently knocking. I have a JDM V6 STI engine and WRX 5 speed conversion that will be going into it.
I just finished a major update on my garage, took about 6 months of weekends. Spent a LOT of time before hand planning everything out, figuring out what I liked/didn't like about my garage, what my goals for the space were, etc.
I don't have a very big garage, it's a one car that's at least fairly deep (at least with an RX-7 parked in it!). I do have a decent amount of space at the end of the garage for a work area at least. Planning around space limitations and making the most of the space was key.
Also I wanted to be able to put up everything - no open shelves stacked with junk. Also wanted to keep the floor clear so I can easily clean it up without piles of stuff on the floor. Since the workspace is on the small side I wanted moveable workspaces -I have one rolling work table that's height adjustable (thing is AWESOME) and a small rolling tool box. Also added a tool cart to roll out to the driveway to put tools and parts on while working on a car.
I planned and built all the cabinets from scratch. That took a LOT of time. Many of them are custom sized to the storage needs - the largest cabinet was built around my miter saw so it has a good place to be stored and can easily be brought out.
The other huge project was the floors. They are VCT, vinyl commercial tile. You see it every day at the grocery store, they are cheap and BULLETPROOF for a flooring option. 69 cents a square foot, just get the surface good and clean, trowel down adhesive, and lay them out. Seal and wax. Upkeep is just mopping/dusting and maybe a coat of wax to shine it up.
I spent more than I planned, but I've been half-assing my garage for too long, it was always a mess, I would do some minor project to clean or add storage, and it never had a cohesive look and purpose. So happy with the final result.
