Rotr8, have you considered making the front fender cut-out into a side skirt wing of some sort, as the Ferrari 599XX does? Could make for a nicely aggressive touch, instead of looking similar to a FEED fender. Could possibly be the reverse of the curved shape design that you did on the door handle pull area:

I absolutely love the design!! Especially the taillight. I've always tried to imaging what the taillight would look like on a new RX-7, and I think you nailed it. The front is very aggressive, has a bit of the new knightsport bumper feel to it.
Any plan to also modernize the interior?
Anyways, can't wait to see this project come to life

I am assuming your initial design was based off of Cam's tubular frame concept he's been working on for a number of years?
I very much like the direction the design has taken from the initial concept. If Mazda were to produce a turbo 3 rotor that looked like your design, I'd be all over it. Or maybe a limited run from you with a modernized interior?

In fact I'd appreciate if the OP got rid of "Pettit" in the thread title.

I'll be honest when I saw that you stepped up and announced yourself as the creator, I thought "oh here we go. Now the flood of unsolicited 'improvements' are headed your way." And sure enough lulz

You are headed in the right direction. I am one that hates change as well... and this is by far the closest thing I'd consider to be an 'okay' replacement for the newer FD. This is purely based off my opinion, however, I wish the front grille was a bit more aggressive without that tiny slit. Also wish the rear looked a bit more like the original FD but more modern. But I overall love the aggressive look and love how the doors and curves resembles the FD.

Not really bothered by it too much, coming from the 8club forum that has the same mentality but with less money to throw around and been hanging on Rennlist for the last couple years where "because I have money listen to everything I say because it's the most important thing in the world" so yeah not too bothered over it. Everyone is free to say what they want and feel like they are part of the journey is ok with me.
question regarding your dual exhaust set up,
do we need to relocate the gas tank or custom gas tank?

While you got amazing talent for design, working with an already designed car is hard, if you try doing "to much" with it. I know this myself since i am a designer who has doe a lot of similar exercises on other products with the same issues.
In this case, what stands out as the "problem" area in my eyes are the roof and stock roof lines. I feel that the design of the body does not interact/blend well enough with the roof and windows.
While your design looks good and modern (mclaren/lotus/ferrari inspired?) on its own, i think you need to adapt it better to the existing roofline, because i am still seeing two different cars. Or maybe modify the roof line more to support your design.

But at a time, yes, dual exhaust was considered, there is a thread here somewhere that someone was able to do the conversion by finding a GM fuel tank.

when do you think the body kit will be ready?
we could start a group buy in order to make it happen faster

Yes the roof will have a panel, it may seem hard to see with all the low angle shots I've posted but the best thing I found to do was to create an aero channel much like the RX8 further accenting the double bubble OEM look of the FD. The A and C pillars are locked, not much I can do there due to their structural nature.

Again, people need to understand that this is being done in my free time with mostly my own funds.
I have a full time job designing future combat systems for the Army as well as other paying clients for the design business. Probably wont be until first/second quarter next year before we start seeing full scale panels in hand. Until then scale models and renders will have to do.

Looks great !
Just a suggestion, make this a turn key car with Pettit. One of the key issue with the 93-95 RX7 is that there's a lot of reliability issues that should be addressed, and lack of reliable mechanics in many areas of the country.
Think Singer Porsche ! Hopefully much cheaper...
