Thanks everyone.

If there is one thing I wish I could change, its the noise of the twin open-dump gates. Its not terrible but not nearly as refined as I would like. I will probably leave the boost at 17psi for that extra something. Power holds strong till 8K+ rpm and the response is basically instant. I remember when tuning I saw 10psi at almost 2500 rpm in 4th gear and that was with a unrefined map.

Be careful

In my experience the trans can barely hold 14 psi of abuse. I run 10 to 14 and have lost a lot of transmissions (typically boost stays at 10 or 11). I can't imagine the trouble I'd have if I ran 17.

armen, i thought you went with an IWG setup. no?

i had the same issue with hating the chainsaw sound of the wastegate dumps. then i recirculated them into my downpipe and it became like a snake pit downpipe with pipes running everywhere. then i went to the IWG setup and it was awesome. i could get the downpipe off in 7 minutes.

when is the TUNED episode going to be recorded and aired?

With all these new IWG turbos comming out, I'm not sure why anyone would deal with the hastle of plumbing an external wastegate.

Yea, its a risk Im taking. Its a low mileage trans that hasnt seen much abuse yet so I should be fine.

Jacob,

Ive gone with an EWG from the beginning. I like the simplicity of the IWG a lot but other reasons drove me towards the EWG.
Filming this Saturday but I dont know when they will air it.

Rumor has it that another FD will also be filmed with me. I have a hunch its a LSx

edit: Seems like I deleted some pics off photobucket by accident.

We filmed for almost 8 hours yesterday and captured some great shots. Its going to be a great episode. I was the one driving my rx7 for the drive by shots and made sure to get some nice cornering footage

I am disappointed with my interview. I had so much more I wanted to say about rotaries and rx7's in general but was not able to get it on camera. Sun was coming down and time was running out.

Matt's a genuine car guy and an awesome dude to chill with. He took me for a ride in the fiesta chase car which really impressed the hell out of me. He didnt reveal many opinions about either car. What I do know is that he really liked both cars. He said the LS2 rx7 (which was put together really well) felt more relaxed and identical to a vette. My car, he liked powerband, balance, lighter front end, transmission (the rifle bolt action feel) and loved the braking. He didnt like the noise of the open dump at all unfortunately. For more we'll have to wait for the episode to be released!

I fly back to DC tomorrow! Im really enjoying the weather right now to say the least.

I live right by K and 12/11 and got really lucky with the building I live in. My M5 does see quite a lot of snow/ice action now that I have a set of snow tires and handles it like a trooper.

Forgot to mention that for the shoot I left the boost at 15psi just to be safe. If I had a few gallons of race gas handy I would of left it at 17psi.

YAY......NASTY I've been running Open WGs now for more than 5 years. The only shortcoming IMO is the personal loss of long term hearing. I think the thing that's so surprising for people cruising beside me is how the car can instantaneously change from something so CIVIL to a nasty, raspy bitch . One of the personalized plate options I considered was LOUDAZ. It's certainly not for everyone, but if I wanted a Vette or GTO I would have bought one. I want people to hear all 80 cubic inches as I'm blasting past them followed by a fireball exclamation point

Love that description at the end "fireball exclamation point"

My hearing is already damaged so open wg is not an option

The 1st time I test drove an FD with a DP, HF cat and PFS exhaust I was thinking this thing is too loud now I consider that really civil LOL It's all relative

Turbos muffle the exhaust pulses quite a bit. Try driving an NA 20b and having the collector slip off the header. That was the most god awful ear ringing expereince in my life.

How well did Matt Farah fit in the FD's? He's by no means a small guy.

He fit ok even with my kirk racing roll bar actually. Had no prob with heel & toe either. No chance as a passenger. The LS fd was a touring so he had less headroom in it.
