Shall we put a date/time limit for this Group Buy? I don't want to hang on to people's money forever
. I'll leave it up to you guys to decide what date. Just keep in mind if there's not enough on the list, this project is a no-go and all funds will be returned.

I would set the cut off date to be December 30th.....this way maybe some of the guys will get some Christmas money and spend it on this bumper. If it doesn't happen by then its not going to happen. IMO
Waiting on Christmas money to buy a bumper???? Holy cheapskates, Batman?!?!?!

How about end of November right after Thanksgiving? I believe paypal has a 90 day refund policy, where we can refund and get reimbursed for the fees they charge.
Btw Ken November works for me. Got my eye on another bumper if this doesn't work out.

I do agree with the fact that people usually dont put their money where threre mouth is. But I appreciate the fact that Ken at shine auto was trying to develop a bumper that some of us want. And some times that takes patience.
If we don't end up getting the full 15 people for instance if we got 10 could we not split the remaining cost of those 5 bumpers among those who are already signed up? It would end up costing us an extra 275 each but we would have the bumper that we wanted at least.
If you're looking for a gross total of 8250 for the job that cost just needs to be split among those purchasing

The issue with that strategy is ... then what will the price be after the group buy? If it goes back to $550 (which happens to be an already difficult selling price) that would surely upset those who participated in the group buy. If the price stays at $825, we pretty much won't sell any.
15 units @ $550 will barely cover the cost of the project with a bit of profit after about 4 months of work. It is not enough of a profit to keep a business sustaining. That will require more units sold periodically after the group buy. I've found 15 to be the magic number. It indicates the popularity of an item and it is a relatively easy number to reach and get a project going if in fact the item is popular.
I've learned this from past projects. Example would be the Mazdaspeed Spec-R front bumper. That group by never hit 15 after 3 separate tries over the course of several years. I hung onto it because of rarity and I personally liked it. But what I like doesn't necessarily transfer into a healthy stream of revenues. We hit about 11 or 12 in that particular group buy. We probably sell that bumper twice a year if we're lucky.
There are only so many projects we can do in a year, which is about 10-15 because of the time involved to create a quality prototype and a quality mold. We cater to several markets and there's high demand for us to produce certain parts all across the board. Thus, we're picky about what we take on. And it is not like we are only picking the highest revenue generating projects either. 15 is the magic number and that's all we need to get something going.

If you are one of twenty on the original list, it would be helpful if you explicitly posted where you are in the decision making process:
planning to put in a deposit
would put in a deposit if there were lenses, but otherwise not interested
still deciding
are no longer interested
other?
I think all of us that ARE interested in this bumper and put down a deposit don't want to wait two months to find out we need to go another route, and it would be great to hear from everyone else.
