Wonder if the value of the Fd would increase if someone figured out how to make the ac work like modern day ac....

not having cold ac and creaky rear hatch is the only thing i dislike about my Fd.

My AC is ICE cold so maybe your is faulty. Have you tried taking it to an AC shop?. And as far as creaking in the rear hatch, my friend's FD was doing that and after some trouble shooting it turned out that his issue was due to worn out hatch struts.

I haven’t and haven’t heard from too many Fd owners that said they have good ac.

Im on a pfc and can’t get my higher fan speeds to kick on as it should. Tried to add a relay as mentioned on one of the threads.

Even when fan speed 4 worked, it just didn’t feel like it blew very hard. I made sure areas where sealed up well with foam tape and so on.

I have a blitz fmic so that prob has something to do with ac working at an optimal level.

If your compressor is good and you have fairly new R12, it should blow really cold. I know many people have converted to R134 and say its good, but R12 will always be colder.

And new hatch struts should fix that creaking. I had it on both of my FD's.

You have to close the vent that blows on your crotch to get good fan speeds.
My OEM R134a 95 A/C (with recharge) does not perform in stop and go comparable to modern cars when it's 90+ degrees outside and humid. When the vehicle is moving it's comparable.

I don't think the guys posting can really relate to Johnny when we have had a heat index right at or above 100 for the last 3 months consistently. Without significant airflow the FD AC doesn't compare to that of most cars when it comes to temperature or fan speed.

My AC is decent, but nothing compared to modern cars in stop and go. Some new cars have compressors driven by an electric motor. The performance advantage is that it can be controlled and always run at optimal RPM. That and the blowers seem to flow about 2x what ours do.

Try a new fan switch or clean contacts on the old one. Mine is getting flaky with the power FC too, but only in lowers speeds fortunately.

NEVER! The nut vent is hands down my favorite feature of the FD interior.

Thanks for the info on the hatch Gordon, will have to give that a try.

Arghx – just noticed on your profile that it says “cold” in the profile. And David is right, TN has some hot and humid weather.

Thanks for the info Alexdim.

Fritz – I think you said you had fun back roads for your daily commute? If I was constantly moving in traffic, not having good ac wouldn’t be that bad.

Nashville traffic is ridiculous. Takes me 45 mins to go 13 miles and everyone is always out and about on the wknds so driving the car around town is not enjoyable.

Hence why I thought about updated sports car like a 911 or NSX. It would be a fun car to drive around with nicer and more comfy interior. Atleast I think it would be. Never riden in either cars.

Yep

I have a bunch of various routes I can take in and out to work that involve twisties

I wouldn't drive any sports car in traffic/commuting

Peanut gallery killed it for the seller. Almost any FD that has spent anytime north of KY has rust on the rear subframe, rear axles and undercarriage bolts. I think this was the first "good deal' Ive seen on BAT.

My vmount system blows icy cold! Can't run it higher than setting 3 without getting frozen out, and that's at outside temps near 105F. Did the AC hardwire about a decade ago due to my Power FC not engaging the AC on multiple settings. I just need to disengage the AC button when going WOT.

That peanut gallery can be annoying. Many of them are just a bunch of 'experts' that nitpick at something that they have no intention of buying.

That whole thing about the paint was a bit much. It did, however, allow the winner to get a great price.

You think that car would have sold for more somewhere else? I feel the peanut gallery separates the herd. You think you have the next $40-50k example and they will quickly correct you. Some are preserved collectibles, some are drivers, and the prices between those to are drastic, just like a NIB action figure.

I think that more than anything else, the most recent BaT auction was hurt by the seller being a dealer. It was obvious from the start (wrong paint color name, claimed apex seal inspection) that the seller knew very little about the car. I think that people like to buy a car from someone they feel has a real connection to it. Those initial errors followed by the paint questions and the dead battery just left everyone feeling uneasy.

BTW - I was kind of freaked out that I guessed the price exactly right!

Good post jsesq.

How the seller conducts himself is very important. There's a seller in the 3rd gen for sale section with a nice R2 for sale. Its a nice car, but not anything special. It has fairly high miles with a rebuild. He started out asking $45K. Nearly everyone thought he was nuts. Now he has lowered the price to mid 20's, but no one is offering because he has proven himself to be unreasonable, The actions of the seller are critical.

JSESQ.........new pricing guru

I've seen worse peanut galleries but clearly this dealer wasn't playing along and it hurt the sale to a degree. That said 28k is a very respectable price for a stock FD with 30 plus k miles.

I agree with David, one of the better deals on BAT but still not a GOOD deal. Much better FDs available for 29k and below.

A lot of "northern" stuff going on the underbelly but body, interior and engine bay look clean. I'll guess $33k.

Edit: Guessing $24k after compression results were posted and AC not working.

Very similar to the VR that just sold but it's WHITE!!!!.......so 35,250. One thing is for certain it will sell for more than 30k unless something weird pops up during the auction.

Looks like another keeper on BAT

EDIT: just saw compression #s and AC isn't working 29k but who knows, new engine is 5k ac fix likely 1k

And now a really nice looking WHITE 94 on BaT! Looks totally stock and even has the battery cover!

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-mazda-rx-7-17/

I’ll guess $40k
