Seeing all those 90's Mazda's made me wonder...what's the value on a Ford probe. Haha.

Neigbour has a mint 1995 Ford Probe, since my son had a very similar car, tempted to buy it. Likely very underpriced in the market, so neighbour is hesitant to sell. Likely shake it loose for C$8000.

YEP, just read the comments and man he didn't miss a thing. This car could literally be a flood car, you never know and that's why buying old collector cars is a real challenge. You have to really understand exactly what you are buying or you will likely overpay.

The color, model, year etc.... didn't have thing to do with the value. It was all the cover ups. AGAIN, I can't wait until we see a really nice FD like the 95 I keep mentioning only with around 5 to 10k miles. It will likely sell for 100k.

I'm guessing snova is on this forum. That car has a history but it will look great sitting in someone's collection :-)

While I originally thought that the person posting questions on that BAT thread was simply trolling, reading back over their posts it's clear that their questions were legitimate.

The seller responded with a general reassurance that the car had always been carefully stored, but did not address every issue. In particular, he did not explain the (crude) repainting of some undercarriage components.

Something felt off about this car and I think prospective buyers noticed that.

I agree. That blue should be brought back. It’s a very cool colour.
I had an mx6 as well I tried to daily. I owned it for barely 1yr when I realized it was trying to kill me. I gotten into so many unpredictable incidents I was convinced the car was out to get me. 1 winter a truck wasn’t left with the parking brake on. It snowed so much that the truck slid off a steep driveway and wound up in the middle of the road. To top it off, the Main Street had a lot of hills. You couldn’t see anything until you crested the hill. Just my luck, this guys driveway was in the middle of 2 hills. I crested the hill, and I threaded the needle between the truck and the mailbox of said house. I missed the mailbox but the trucks tailgate was down and managed to catch the front passenger fender as well as the door. Right then and there I knew it wasn’t meant to be.
as luck would have it, the new Mazda 6 debuted shortly after that incident. Drove to the dealer and bought up a fully loaded GT in silver with the manual. They gave me 4g’s for the mx6.

That's scary, good thing you are ok tho, and you can't go wrong with a brand new Mazda6.

I have had the M-Edition for 17 years, sold it with 265k on it to a guy who just want some rare parts. The blue one I sold it to the junkyard after the trans locked up on me at 205k. MX-6 are so fun I often try to look for a low mileage one to daily again haha.

Oh wow! You had yours for a long time. No doubt it was fun, but after having numerous close calls and then that last one, I had to get rid of it.

Funny enough, I couldn’t hold onto the 6 either due to unforeseen financial circumstances. I had to move into a smaller mazda3. Picked up a GT in Winning Blue. During winter and took her out to her maiden voyage to Ottawa for a New Years party 1 of my friends was having.
At the end of that weekend, on the way back, I couldn’t take the highway because the weather was so bad they closed the main highway down. I was with a friend because we both needed to work right after the holiday so I took the longer way since it was the only way back. Not an hour into the trip, I encountered a Toyota camery that lost control due to the bad weather. At the last second she tried to recover and steered directly into me. Brand new Mazda 3 written off with barely 600km’s on the clock. Unbelievable. Blew out my left ear a bit due to the stupid airbags but otherwise, not a scratch on me.
After trying to get back home, I was back at the dealer 2 days later specing out another mazda3. Lol
That one at least I kept awhile longer since I took it under a lease. In a funny way having that incident helped my financial situation since the bank paid out a little more than what I spent on the car. Helped a lot!
Near the end of that lease, I finally had a choice to drive what I really wanted. Picked up a new 08 NC PRHT. I owned that sucker for 10yrs and clocked in over 265k on the clock before finally letting her go 3 yrs ago…

Friend at Sevens Day meet today who is active in the JDM scene, said Japanese authorities are requiring JDM to be repaired back to spec before export. No more junkers for you, world! Also China is loosening up restrictions on used JDM and car modifications in general. Although this may be a gradual process, if China opens up, he could see the Westcoast getting cleaned out of desirable JDM.

When I went to Hawaii in 2015, I checked google earth for wreckers on Oahu. I spotted a number of FD (and Corvettes) but by the time i actually got to Oahu - all the autowrecking yards had been cleaned out. Where did all the scrap cars go? And those FDs! (Yard manger confirmed he had had FDs until just a few weeks before.)

Same thing in Vancouver, almost overnight, large scrap yards were totally cleaned out. All those wonderful wrecked Proteges with period correct RX7 parrallel parts!

BC Weigh Up Down Under

Friend in Aus posted these lowest and highest prices on Australia classified this week.

At such prices, how long before we see Australian pulling RHD out of North America?

Good to see there are still some excellent examples available..
Even with the conversion, the price of mint FD's are going to rise. I'm alright with that..

Either that or they could start importing our lhd 93-95s. Is that legal down under? Might save some money at those prices!

USA has one of the lowest priced rx7 markets. Most countries charge high import tax on the JDM exports, so the cost landed is actually quite high

Supra for $30,000 USD ($45,000 CAD) but with issues detailed in the video... previous owner sold it for crypto!

They have 2 Supras, which is 2 more Supras than most people have. If they were in perfect condition, they would have cost a lot more.

A rather entertaining video on Rx-7 prices:

For those that are not interested in the history lesson (although I enjoyed it) go to the 21:49 mark.

And another swapped cluster, TMU FD on BAT:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-146/

Looks to be in decent cosmetic condition and has some high-quality aftermarket parts (though why the owner cheaped out on mismatched tires is a bit of a mystery).

Great FD to buy and just drive.

Another FD just went live on BaT:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-146/

It's a '93 in VR, looks like a Touring even though they're not advertising it as such. Has an R1 front strut brace and supposedly dual oil coolers as well. It's a more modified example than BaT usually features, which will probably hold back the price somewhat. The xenon headlights and modern Mazda badges look cheap, IMO.

Still surprising to me that Tourings are valued higher than R1s...

I'm going to guess $35k.

And I don't think there is enough volume to prove that a touring is worth more than an R1. If the cars were posted at the same time and had everything equal, then we would see, but even that would be a super small sample. Long term, R models will be worth more, assuming all else the same.

^ Actually, nevermind. Latest Hagerty price guide (probably the largest source of FD sales) actually lists R1 higher than Touring, as it should be:
