My heart agrees with you. Personally, I do not like supras mainly because I think they are quite hideous. When I was car shopping back in the day I test drove a TT supra but I ended up buying an FD because I thought it was a much better looking car and just felt more a like a sports car. With that said, I can't deny the supra is better built, cost more when new (TT model i.e.), and has a rather rabid cult following that can not only be attributed to FnF but also because they were known to bring down lambos back in the day. All that translates into a higher price tag in which the N/A supras are simply riding on the coattails of the TT models. Now obviously, the FD has merits on its own but unfortunately it has been plagued with a horrible reputation which coincidentally still follows it to this day. IMO I think that reputation is what kept it from reaching a cult following that would rival the supra's. Oh well I guess.

The NSX right off the showroom floor were $60k, hand built (the engine was at least), and as others have said the NSX was a game changer that beat Ferrari at their own game. Taking all of that into consideration and given the price tag was almost twice as much as the FD, it is not surprising that they cost a pretty penny today. But hey look at in the bright side: at least the FD is bringing in more money than a 3000GT VR4 as most of those sales are still below 20K. Noting that when new they had a 25% (almost) higher price tag.

$80K for a 50,000 mile FD. Not too shabby but not sure they are going to get that in PR, but hey...

That has to be a full on restoration down to the last bolt. Every part looks literally brand new.

Love it!!

I looked inside it. Was pristine.

And here I was thinking I could pick up a cheap one when I first saw it. But those guys are no joke. Very rural area and all of a sudden a bunch of supercars. Some of the roads are still washed out from Maria, would be tough to drive them locally.

The Mazda Canada CYM is probably worth that much, then. It looked brand new at the auto show.

Shes always around my neighborhood. She gets maintained here at Dave woods. Now renamed New Roads. I think they might have to find somewhere else to maintain her along with her twin, the black FD. Rotary techs there have either moved on, or have retired..
Here she was at the last public outing at Mosport before the whole plague shut us down..

Not the typical BaT bid-war nearer the end of the auction but still a good sale.

Crazy that in 2017 when Doug DeMuro made his RX7 video, $50k for an FD was an almost unthinkable number

If I could forget about the black R1 going for $50K I'd think this was a really good price, but I can't! Based on that I thought this one would easily crest $60K. Can't figure out these buyers so I guess I should stop trying

Just noticed that first page of Forum cars for sale is all WTB's
This may indicate more than just supply vs demand ??

Someone in the comments was heckling the hell out of the seller and nitpicking every little thing. He most've posted 15 times or so and seemed to have no vested interest in buying the car. Definitely didn't help the sale. Some black paint had been sprayed under the car and was definitely a bit of concern, but I still would've bet it would've gone over 60.

Is there more of a backstory to the Mazda Canada CYM. Something like they were not Canada Spec, but USDM converted to Canada after the fact. The VIN number of the car might be a clue. Does it have the light washers?

For Canada, CYM was actually a colour option. So you can get it in our base, and "touring" options. Canada never got R1's until late in 93. We know them as 25th Anniversary cars since they were R1's only made available to Canada to celebrate 25yrs of Mazda in Canada. However, they only came in black.
Otherwise, CYM's are very sought after because as usual, the most common colour for the FD was red. Very few optioned out the CYM for Canada.
Those headlight washers were only available if you got the car with the Touring package. Otherwise, no washers nor rear wipers.

Interesting! Never seen those 25th Anniversary front fender emblems (stickers?)... Any more shots of them?
Looks like a little Canadian Maple leaf between the 2 and the 5..

[EDIT] FOUND closer pics of the front fender sticker

Yep, correct. They were little stickers they put on the outside of the cars for that specific time frame. They even had floor mats made specifically for those cars that were purchased in that trim. There are 25th anniversaries in that entire brochure.. so you have Protege's, MX6's, RX7's, 929's, etc. I'll see about taking more pics when I get home..

I read that often the sticker came with the owner manual package and it was buyer's dealer's option to attach. So check out any old owners manuals, the sticker might still be there.

Was behind a MPV from that era yesterday. Boy did it look weird compared to all the SUVs. It was a Sport Edition with V6. Very practical, I'm sure.

Also I recently obtained the French Version of the 25th Anniversary Brochure, no sticker in it though.

Man, here I am considering jumping back into an FD after almost a decade, and finding a well sorted car with a clean interior for $35-45K seems like an absolute impossibility now. Beginning to feel a bit disheartened. I wonder if the market will continue to rise from here, or if it will settle down a bit when the rest of the used market does. Sold my car, moved out of the country for a few years, came back, and prices have quadrupled for cars like mine--what an absolute heartbreaker of a situation, hahaha. Gotta laugh or I might cry!

That's the first I've heard of it. I always found the stickers on the actual car. Part of the PEP charge.. lol

My family actually had an MPV. The more road version of it. The only minivan that didnt have sliding doors. It was essentially a crossover of a van and an SUV. Ours wasn't 4wd though. Just the normal rwd. It was also the vehicle my brother learned he couldn't drive. He smashed that thing up twice trying to drive to and from work/school.. LOL Did a number to both his driving record and my old mans insurance. LOL
