don’t know what to tell you. I have to admit I (and I’m sure I’m not alone) am getting pretty tired of the FD stigma regarding price, reliability and acceptance of mods vs other cars, especially the supra/skyline
A lot of the RX-7’s appeal is the beautiful factory body lines.
This car has extensive body modifications that can be considered hit or miss for the wider audience. Same goes for the Veilside kit. Some love that kit and others hate it.
You vastly limit the pool of potential buyers when you change the body of any car this extensively.
This is absolutely an amazing piece of JDM history and with two days to go I fully expect the bids to go higher.
I also think Bring-a-Trailer should have listed the car, but I understand why they didn’t.
These cars will continue to rise in price. They are all over youtube and many people are understanding that they are not unreliable. Fake news. I bought my FD in 1998 when I was 24 years old for 17k. I am the second owner and now I am 47 years old. My 13 year old son loves the car and when I no longer can drive it he will be the next owner. He is currently ripping it up racing professional gokarts so he is getting plenty of driving experience. He has gained my trust to drive the car already. I see these cars hitting 100k in less than 3 years.
YEP!!! I have a mostly stock FD. Bought 4 years ago with 24k miles. It currently has 36k miles on it and all I do is change the oil. I probably just jinxed myself though
The right one would sell for 100k today.
For example this 95 that just sold, if it had under 5k miles it could sell for 100k today.
However I'm feeling less robust about this country and the world economy to buy much of anything that's so far out of the money. Time to get back into gold and silver LOL. This morning I read an article in WSJ about taxing gas more and more. Ca now pays about 60 cents per gallon in TAX....that's just WRONG!!!! It's bad enough that the other states pay about 1/2 that. Now they want every state to pay at least 60 cents per gallon to fight carbon, fund that 6 trillion green new deal etc.... Inflation is already here and now the big gov thinks raising taxes is a good idea...........IDIOTS!!!!!
Money doesn't grow on trees it grows in loans. People are literally refinancing to buy bitcoin etc.... the increase in margin debt is also scary. 2020 public debt was 19t, today it's 21t, that's a big move up in just 1 year. There will be a big move up in bankruptcies, foreclosures etc.... in 2022.
I know I sound like Peter Schiff but at some point this funny money will be no laughing matter. I see another market crash, housing crash etc... in the future Or on the positive side there is so many fed dollars out there and pent up demand it will be like the roaring 20s all over again at least until the party ends but damn what hangover! WHO KNOWS!!!!

YEP, I haven't seen any extensively modded cars on BAT.
The last thing the FD needs is a body kit it's perfect as is.
We have the highest gas prices in North America and that has almost zero affect on high end car ownership. F150 crew cabs abound. Budget miser cars are nearly invisible. We are paying $1.52/liter for regular 87 octane. That is over $6 per gallon.
The Covid bounce back is well underway and our streets are already jammed. No one wants to ride a bus if they can avoid it.
I just came back from an unsanctioned car and coffee and covid meet. Parking lot full of all kinds of enthusiast cars. Many cars turning away.
Its going to be the summer of the massive car meets.
Yep I’m trying to share it as much as I can on Facebook. I would really have liked to sell on BAT to get some decent discussion/commentary going. But they refused to list it claiming there are only interested in stock non modified cars going forward
I don't get the whole curated thing. All they have to do is list it and collect their fee.
Here is a heavily modded mustang they are selling right now. Plexiglass windows, yuck. They sell modded cars, just not yours I guess...
It's very simple guys. The links you've posted, I can still tell they are the vehicle they use to be. In the case of the Mustang, hell, it's still a Mustang just modded for racing. By all means though, it's still very much a Mustang.
That Honda, definitely a Civic. If you really wanted to revert it back to stock, you can. Without much effort. To tell you the truth, I'd much prefer the way it looks right now. It's kinda flashy in a Honda Boy type of way.
Feed Aflux's car though.. I'm sorry, but it's not even recognizable as an FD anymore. I get the fact you did the mods to your criteria and to each their own. However, I completely agree with BaT's statement. Reverting this particular car back to what it should look like will take far too much money and time. Finding another soul who appreciates this particular kit.. going to be next to impossible to find.
If it was maybe the "famous" Veilside kit, then maybe BaT would've agreed. However, as it stands right now...

I don't think it will surprise you to hear that I think Obama's 3rd term might be accompanied by a severe recession. I think there is a good chance we might even see "stagflation" again. Inflation is rapidly rising and there's no way to stop it. Add the vastly increased money supply, much higher taxes, and over-regulation and things could get very bad indeed.

YEP
The rich get richer and the middle class is destroyed. Canada seems to have a head start on us but we are following in their foot steps.

ive been wondering about that too, and its even so simple as the stimulus money and unemployment moneys running out, that could be abrupt.
Extending unemployment etc.... was a huge mistake. I can't hire anyone because why would anyone go back to work when they can earn about the same sitting at home. This whole mess has been, well a big mess that our government made over decades of borrow and spend. They just keep treading water in their giant ocean of funny money, they don't even have the *****/decency to raise interest rates because the pain is too much to take, don't take away my floaties or I'll drown LOL.

On first reaction I agree, and often say so, the FD in its original form is a thing of beauty. The recent pics on Tomsn16 's thread, showing a stripped down FD "shell" , really emphasize that. However, I have recently acquired a number of the "tuner bibles" from Japan dating from the "90s and '00s. It is stunning to see how massive the modification culture was. (How did any RHD FD survive?) Even Mazda could not resist the drive to modify. Look at the range of Mazdaspeed factory sanctioned options. Looking at the FEED car from that perspective, one can understand the following the car would have. One of my tuner bibles in fact has that car (or one of the 15 or so like it) on the cover. It not a question if there needs to be room for modified FD in the collector range, but there is a cultural imperative that there should be.
The JDM scene in the US is still a teeny tiny segment, despite the media influences. But it is planting down roots and is rapidly growing. As a result of Covid, and the springing up of unsanctioned voodoo meets, the highly mixed nature of these meets will drive (imo) the broadening of enthusiasts tastes across the spectrum of collector and modified car classes.
I had my car back to maybe 99% original for about 6 months, even stock AST! And not counting being on its second engine.. So my goal was to "keep it stock". I recently had the car appraised and I listed (for fun) deviations from stock. I stopped at 35 items.
Almost all for which I had some remedy to take "back to stock". (Now on third motor),
But the changes can gradually slip in.
Considering there is a very long list of recall items for the early cars (out there somewhere). Even many "original" cars have collected a list of "runability mods".
Would Mazda still honour the recall? If someone found out that the correcting mod had never been done?
I have thought about putting mine up for sale in fear of the electric generation.... I just don't think I can replace it. No idea what I would even ask considering it is an auto converted to manual...., but an incredible build so far. I kept the twin(just up graded them).
There really aren't any cars that catch my eye today for under 100k.
Yup, politics is poison alright...... I'll see if I can find a mod to come in and clean things up a bit
I've thought about selling my 1200 mile Montego Blue FD but I recently bolted on a few Mazdaspeed parts and took it for a spin today. Think I'll hang onto her for a while longer
