Your Oil Temperature

There's bound to be someone or two out there that have oil temperature gauges. I'm curious as to what your oil temperature are ....say on a eigthy degree day cruising along. And also where is your temp probe located? In the feed line from the oil cooler or in the pan? Thank you. Oh and does it read lower than you water temp gauge? (possible trick queation, beware).

Mine has been out for a while. However, it never read higher than the water temp. And I have the RB oil filter stand adapter.

My numbers are on there also.

If your oil temps are higher than your water temps, something is VERY wrong.

I run the Racing Beat oil filter adapter also.

What can be done to lower your temps, considering new oil lines, fresh rebuild, oil cooler flushed, and good oil?

My oil temps genrally run about 190-200. Coolant around 185-192. Coolant temps measured by a haltech and oil by an autometer electronic guage on a RB block at oil filter.

Do you have the black plastic engine pan still installed?
#1 reason for elevated oil temps is due to insufficient ducting.  This is usually due to a missing engine pan or missing pieces of foam under the oil cooler.

If the engine pan is intact and the foam is still good, additional duction will do wonders.

Side note, there is an oil thermo bypass pellet inside the oil cooler.  This could have died in your oil cooler.

Ok, I will check the bypass for proper function. The pan is installed, but the foam is kinda gone from cleaning. I think the front mount robbed my oil cooler of valuable air flow. One upgrade leads to another. haha

When I had my oil temp gauge imop it seemed like a great way to tell when the engine was really warmed up and ready for some hard driving. It seemed to take about five miles of gentle driving to get the oil up to its normal temps.

How about that. I thought this thread had died without being answered! On a recent 850 mile trip I saw normaly 165 degrees and when the sun came up and the OAT reached the 80 degree mark, about 175 degrees with the temp sensor in the pan. So I'm good to go so to speak I guess. I was just fishing for temps. Thank you. P.S I do have a RB adapter off my 82 RX sitting in the shed. I just was curious about pan temps so I took out the useless SubZero temp sensor in the pan, gutted it out and tapped in threads for a AutoMeter water temp gauge. And yes, I know that is not the ideal place for a oil temp gauge, so please. Just curious how hot the oil got prior to being cooled.
